I would but I'm outside LOS now. This is a holiday month for most teachers ... isn't there a volunteer for this mission?

funny you should pop in warhammer, lol, i was thinking you might see this is as some kind of opportunity. i knew a few guys over there would have taken this, and shmoozed their way into some kind of housing deal, (many/most? big skools have teachers housing onsite, ours was all filipinos, they paid 1k a month)and they'd live like squirrels and stuff their cheeks at skool meals and then go off to the temple to mooch the food offerings meant for the poor. the kind of guys who would ask if they could finish your plate and stick their fingers in payfones and shit. they're out there, and they'll put that 11k in their pockets and not spend a penny of it.

and not just cheap westerners, some africans and subcontinentals too, i'm sure some get turned away everywhere, and if they come from less than 11k somewhere else, they'll take it, being 11k more than nothing. lots of westerners think it a virtue to be so frugal. i think it's retarded personally. it never seems humble to me, just something more cunning and calculating, really ghetto. the job will get filled. i betcha. by a non native, or a hillbilly.

    Why?

As in, just.... why? There's a legal set wage. Tell them to fuck off.

When ajarn advertises these sub-standard wages, Thai school admins play monkey-see-monkey-do and follow suit. I'd like to see this job advert rejected as well.

I have no ground rules or reasons to refuse it.
If I refuse this, then all the 200 baht an hour private language school stuff needs to go as well. I think those rates are just as ridiculous.
The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.

Maybe that will force them to raise their rates.

ok, so there was a connection. The OP was about schools offering teachers a terrible salary, and your post was about terrible teachers being offered a salary.

let me keep the ball rolling here by saying that I have known good teachers who spend their salaries on terrible food at school. Seriously, some of the food they buy is not fit for human consumption.

But Ajarn.com is not well known for its quality jobs on offer, I guess it depends on where you want to position yourself. If you want to be known as the site with the shite (jobs) or the premier site to go to that has the middle to premium jobs in the Kingdom.

I do check out the jobs on Ajarn.com from time to time but to be honest, there is very little of interest for me and I think the one job I did get via ajarn.com turned out to be a complete disaster.

I shouldn't laugh, I've seen people hopitalised by free school food.

Some people say this, but is there any evidence that this happens? Say, before the days of teaching forums on line? In the business world, the best jobs are not advertised. I'm pretty sure this is true for teaching jobs in Thailand too.

Yes, I'm still very jet lagged but spring here in Sonoma County is beautiful. And it's great to eat decent beef again! I love bicycling here but still a little cold for me ... you still living at the same place?

True dat. I think the jobs section of this site has unintentionally contributed to the decline of salaries in LOS by allowing schools to drop the bar on salaries publicly, one school following the other. At one point did every school start referring to 'native speakers' as 'NES?'
