This is the craziest May I've ever experienced. My phone is just ringing non-stop with schools desperate for teachers and asking for advice, etc.
I've seriously barely got time to go and make a coffee.

I'm just wondering if we are now seeing the beginning of a new era - an era when a large number of teachers have finally done their sums or learnt from hard bitter experience that 30-35K is not an amount of money you can survive on - and those same large numbers are voting with their feet. Or just not coming in the first place.

I'm predicting one hell of a June as well, as half of the new hires don't even show up on the first day of term.
The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.

No, the conversation usually begins with the other person not saying their name, or not saying the name of their school or not saying the name of their company - and just saying "how can I find a teacher?"

I'll tell you a secret - I don't think Thais should ever have been let in on the invention of the telephone.

thai people have nothing on the vitnamee for fone abuse and fone obsession and never taking the fucking thing off of their ear except for texting and checking their facebook. people text when they drive. motorbikes. nothing, not even their own lives, are worth more than their text messages and calls.

people very often fone me dialling the wrong numba. when they realize we can't communicate, they hang up, and then they call again and again, just for the halibut. one woman has been foning me every 3 days for a month now. she has no idea who i am, but she fones and texts constantly.

one girl in a furniture shop, she took my numba down for delivery porpoises. and then after i got my sofa, she called or texted me daily. people here do that all the time, if they get your numba somehow, they will call you. for nothing.

Quite a number of the jobs coming in are of the "300 teachers wanted in schools all over Thailand" variety. It's clear that there are a number of 'big' new players in the agency game and their sales people have been very busy indeed. Of course the ultimate question is always 'can they deliver'?

Such as what? Are you completely incapable of making your own decisions about your career?

I've always made my own choices, especially when I taught in Thailand. I was not affected in the least by ads for low paying teaching jobs. The only time I ever looked at the ads on the Ajarn website was when my contract ended and I wanted to find a new job.

There were probably low paid jobs advertised at that time, but this didn't bring my wages down. My new job was for a higher rate of pay.

Yup. Here's the thing they obviously neglected to tell some posters (in case it affected their self-esteem). Now you be all growed up, ain't nobody going to be about to molly-coddle you.

Work it out. You are on your own.

^ & ^^ True dat! Good advice you two.

    Money?

Schools that pay 200 baht an hour and schools that pay salaries of 11,000 baht a month have never in the history of ajarn.com paid for a job ad. So I don't make a brass farthing out of them.

Err ... not money "directly" ...

    ---Update---

    ... it's an "overall" ... "thing"

By accepting these bodgey job ads you contfibute to the overall "bullshit factor"

Obviously site traffic and other related issues come into play. Ultimately affecting your income.

    Get real Phil

Tell them to fuck off ... and all like them.

Eventually your site will be known as a site with integrity ... and will be much stronger. Unless what you're making now is enough.

I strongly believe that Phil has a direct influence over employment of ajarn farang through his jobs board, but I also believe that the greed and corruption of school directors/agency heads play a complicit role in the falling salaries/benefits. If Phil doesn't earn a farthing from an 11K job ad, then what's the point of running the ad?

    So...stay with me KK.....what you're sayin' is that….

    1. All Thais are stupid and cheap.
    2. All teachers that work in Thailand are stupid and cheap.
    3. Freedom of choice is not allowed on the Forum
    4. If Bangkok Phil receives a job offering that he disagrees with, he must tell those agencies/schools and all others that are “trying it on” to “fuck off.”
    5. Even though some have never run a business like AF, Bangkok Phil must listen and do what is suggested, no matter how ridiculous it sounds.
    .......
