    11,000 baht a month for a full-time NES

I've just had a job sent to me for a full-time native English speaker and the salary offered is between 11,000 and 13,000 baht depending on experience. But they do pay for the work permit. This is not some temple school over-run with stray dogs; this is a large secondary school just outside Bangkok.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any crazier.

I emailed them to see if they had made a mistake. They hadn't.

And before anyone says it - this is not four times the salary of a Thai teacher LOL
The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.

Did they offer anything in mitigation? Like it's cheap to live outside the city

Sad really on many levels. There are so many ways to interpret this. Unfortunately, most are negative.
Phil, it would be interesting to engage them in a non-judgmental conversation regarding their expectations and how they came to that figure, no?
As to Thai teacher salaries, lets get real; many, if not most senior teachers (Thai) are making between 30+k to 50+k per month. The route to a higher salary is there for any teacher willing to do the work. Ajarn 3; ajarn 4; double step raises based on extra jobs, and yes, schmoozing the boss. My better half is well on her way to 50k by next year. She's been teaching for 34 years and earned every baht. cheers.

Some backpacker type looking for an 'experience' will take it probably. There are plenty of KSR types who dream of shite like that. Either the 11,000 or do it as a free 'volunteer' and go back home to tell the stories forever on how they helped third world kids in their gap year.

...*ahem*...these folks do pay to have the ads published don't they?...They should certainly be able to pay a teacher what they think the market will bear...and, let's face it: this market is nothing if not a bear...

Yes, it would. But can I take bets on the answer? - we can't afford to pay anymore than that.

Don't know. We don't keep detailed job post records (that's to say by school name) beyond the last 20 days.

On the other side of the coin, it's sad to see some people get jobs simply because they have a piece of paper. This doesn't only happen in Thailand.
