Teaching Prathom is becoming absurd - here's why:

Academic jargon and an intellectual approach to dealing with young kids.
From 4 page lesson plans and "SWOT analysis" to 4 more such e-mails with many more similar attachments. Guys, is this what you are dealing with at your school?

Students' temperament & personality (some small girls are very feisty etc.) needs a hands off approach IMHO. What's your take on this below?

Looks like the checklist "professionalization" begun in America in the 80's is infiltrating Thailand. On the one hand, this is incredibly restrictive to good teachers. On the other hand, it's a lot better than leaving bad teachers to their own devices. It'd be best to just get rid of the bad teachers, of course, but that won't happen until Thai schools radically increase the salaries they offer. Checklists are easier, I suppose.

    What's to be said.

    seriously ridiculous imo.

Probably put together by some folks who have never been in front of a class.

As with 90% of Thai school "initiatives"...just ignore it...

It's been generated by some numpty trying to gain the next higher level in salary and nothing more...

It's the teachers that take this crap seriously that don't last in Thailand...I'll wager that if you just ignore it the chances of them saying anything about it are slim to none...and if they are actually going to take it seriously then by you ignoring it the usual outcome is they won't renew your contract next year...which is the best case scenario all round...

who would want to work for a school with their heads so far up their asses...

Spot on, thaitanium! My advice: fight bullsh!t with bull sh!t. Fill in whatever you feel like, and if someone asks a question, go on about the kid's ability to synthesize.

What it boils down to is:

    1) Does the kid talk and participate or just play or sleep?
    2) Is the student dense?
    3) Does the student know how to cheat, copy, get his toys bck from other kids?
    4) Same as 3)
    5) Can the student work with a computer and phone?

Throw in some grades, job done! To answer your question - no, I don't have to deal with this in my school.

No doubt...chances are it was copied directly from the internet and the person who submitted it has understood about 20% of it's actual content but noticing a lot of big English words, thought it would impress the next person up the chain...who understands no English at all...

I think patriotism and nationalism should be avoided as much as religion and prayer.

An absolutely useless assement tool which will be used by no one. At least it should take less than 10 seconds to fill in. Like all assessment here it never focuses on what kids can actually do. At pratom level all the early focus should be teachng them to read because without reading they go up to Matayom without even the basics. 90% of Matayom kids i test up in Nongkhai can barely decode simple words.

The work is already done for you.

Quit complaining and tick the boxes. You might learn something about what individual kids need help with.

The 4 page lesson plan thing is waaay out there, though.

There are few problems in life that cannot be solved with toast.

One of them, however, is opening a can of corned beef with that stupid key. This cannot easily be done at the best of times, and toast is of surprisingly little use in resolving the issue.

    Not in this form.

Study on the Basic Education Core Curriculum BE 2551 (AD 2008) and you'll learn more about assessment.

I don't have to do this but I am supposed to be implementing STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) in a P1 class which is difficult since most of the kids just want to color and pick their noses. Then there's the 2-3 who still fall asleep after lunch, and the one kid who can't sit still for more than 1 min...Throw on some videos, tick the boxes, and talk about "integration" and as someone else suggested, "synthesis". I just gave a presentation about teaching Phonics to a bunch of Thai teacher who could barely say the word Phonics so I doubt anyone at your school can actually read that form.

I haven't done a 4 page lesson plan since my CELTA & as for the form, the Excel random number generator function is there for a reason...

Just give them a decent grade for each competence.

I used to have to write reports. They would read like this:

Mr Boss ThaiMcthai (not a real S' obviously)

    Achievement: B Participation: B Conduct: B

Boss is lively and is popular with other students. He can be active in class and likes attention. Overall, I am happy with his development.

But, what I really meant was...

    Achievement: F Participation: E Conduct: F

Boss has obviously been very spoiled at home. He waltzes in twenty minutes late to any class and instantly disrupts other students. He never listens to a word any teacher says but demands to know the answers in the last five minutes of the lesson. He talks constantly in class and insults his teachers in Thai. He has punched other students in lessons this term. Our art teacher was insulted in Thai with 'I don't care you fat ugly bitch'. He was not aware she spoke fluent Thai. When confronted he denied saying it and complained to his mummy. He throws things at other students and at times, his teachers. When punished with lines or the loss of credits for his team, he phones his mum and complains, trying to get his teachers in trouble. As parents, you should be aware that your son is a spoilt little shit. It is all your fault. You are failing as parents.

Just give the nob looking for a promo what he/she wants. As long as you teach the kids well, everything else can fuck off.
