Thai school Watch
It's been some time since I've been back to the Ajarn forums, where is the Thai School Watch site? I'd like to look up what people are saying about a school, but I can't find it???
Gone these many years now.
It had two admins in two incarnations but ultimately it could not stand up to the pressure of litigation from some of the big schools that were maligned.
We could all sit outside on banana lounges discussing the best way to rebuild a 4WD transmission and agree, through shared stories of conquests supporting our assertions, that there is no basis to the proposition that those least assured of their persuasions are the first to condemn others for theirs.
REALLY??? That was the best part of the site to read, just for sheer entertainment value alone. What happened?

I founded TSW (one night when I'd had one drink too many)...I lasted about 8 weeks at first, before my cover was blown, I gave to ex-AF admin Marko to look after, and he hated it too., then I took it back over for a little wile, til shutting it down after more legal threats, and massive trolling....no way I would openly admin a site like that again.
Greg Woods then took up the mantle with TEFL Watch which was a whole different saga, which as we all know went on for about 2 year before even he grew tired of the bullshit that follows the running of these kind of sites. Others have made more minor attempts to revive the format, but none have lasted long.
Nothing to do with money, really...more to do with the fact that Thai defamation laws are criminal rather than civil, and that somebody seeking to take you to court can do so even if you yourself haven't posted a statement, that the statement can be as banal as "Somchai's TEFL Shack is rubbish to work for!" to be classed as defamatory, and schools nare not even required to give a proper takedown notice prior to taking complaints to the police.

Perhaps the most sage advice on this subject. The issue may not be the inevitable trolling on any such forum format, but the Thai defamation laws are just so different to the West. Really, anyone who thinks of doing this is just going to end with many a headache for no gain whatsoever. Beware anyone who lives in Thailand and starts a site like this.

...we have a few in this category: those whose contributions would be more enthusiastically received on other forums...like beings unable to move on after intellectual death, they are trapped on our plane of existence until such time as a ghostbuster removes them...
