If that's the case I suffered burnout 6 years ago...but I'm still content to enter a classroom...that doesn't really jibe now does it...

It's not always the case that when someone recognizes shit as shit that he's a pessimist or cynic or burned out...but it is usually the perspective of those who tend to view shit as sunshine...simply because anything else would burst their bubble...

Well is it becoming more gentrified or is it full of African drug dealers ? I would have thought the two were, to some extent, mutually exclusive.

It wouldn't really be a bad thing if Nana Plaza was just swallowed by into the ground. It's not as if it has any redeeming features.

Oh really?...how many billions of baht do you suppose that place transfers from the bank accounts of tourists into the Thai economy annually?

    I'm not so sure.
For every product that a shopping mall sells, it has to buy as new from someone else first. It can only make a bit of profit off each product once.
Every "product" that is sold at Nana is basically used and is recycled over and over and over. The same product is sold many times over. Tons of profit in that type of business.

They're both shopping malls...it's just as NokYai says...one has a superior business model that garners substantially more profit...

If by "Thai Economy" you mean the hands of drug addicted hookers.

You're not really that dense are you?...what? these drug addled hookers take the money they earn and bury it forever...or is it more likely that they spend it on food, taxis, rent, clothes, mobile phones...you know...all that stuff that economies sustain themselves on?...

Okay...But for all the money that many of these hookers make, and some of the top earners do quite well, they usually have little to show for it when they are too old to turn tricks. They squander their earnings.

One quick fire would do the place in and kill a whole bunch of people. For as much money as the Entertainment Plaza allegedly makes, I've always wondered why the tenants/owner have never upgraded or even attempted to keep the place reasonably clean. Let the wrecking ball take that squalid facility down and put up something better.

I thought the two were mutually exclusive as well. I was shocked when I walked by the spiffy new Sofitel and less than 50 feet away were six scary-looking Africans sitting on chairs on the street, looking me up and down and muttering 'ice.' How are these characters able to stay in Thailand?

I understand that 'misery loves company.' Maybe at the uni level students are just tolerating your course because they must take so many units in English, but there are a few students you will positively impact unless you project this everything is shit feeling all the time.

If it was their strong point they would be bankers instead of hookers. Wouldn't make much difference though they both would screw you.

so has there been any kind of final analysis as to why people choose to do Tefl in Thailand?

I have no reservations about giving my reasons.
