    That's what I make before taxes, but I think Thailand has a much smaller income tax.

    I did wonder that myself. In all honesty this would apply to perhaps one or two Thai kids I have taught over 3 years. The geography point would have some weight in Thailand though; it sure ain't their forte!
    I guess we are pretty lucky from a behavior point of view in Thailand. Or perhaps I am just lucky with my students?!

    Some of that is your pension fund, no?

    Plus you get deductions for each dependent. If you're single your total fed inc tax is about 20%, no?

    Plus you file your income tax and get a return, no?

    It would depend on the school, but in general attitudes towards teachers are better than the West.

    Yeah, part of the benefits package is my pension. Last year I was not a teacher, so instead of a return I had to pay :/

    The ones with the bogan, nouveau riche parents can be particularly troubling.
