There is no link cause I'm watching The Malissa Harris Perry Show at the mo. 300,000 teaching lost since June, 2009. 70,000 teaching jobs lost since January 2012.
I see Internet adds looking for (almost entirely) preschool teachers that pay 9-10$ an hour and they include nappie duties. And among the quals you need a state teacher's certificate to be considered. Low times brethren.
What are you talking about? Stock market is up. That's all that counts.
so you can post a new thread while watching some gay ass american redneck show but you can't google a fucking link to include in the post? how does that work bad boi?
I make $43k right now as a teacher in Louisiana. There were loads of jobs that opened up because a lot of the teachers did not like the changes.

But I am at school for 50 hours a week.
Did you get this job recently? Is it a contract or a full time position? Unionized?
Take the praxis for your desired subject and you might be required to take some education courses if your degree is not in education. If you have an education degree, just take your praxis tests and you'll be good.

My school just hired a French teacher who did not graduate with an education degree and never had a job before.

Considering the low quality of the teachers I had growing up, I think some of this stern treatment is deserved. OTOH, lower wages and less job security will attract lower quality staff, which will lower the quality of educators in the country.

There's no reason for such hostility. It just makes you look like trash and doesn't further the conversation at all.
I agree completely, but I also think parents on average are better than they were 20 or 40 years ago. My god, who could be worse parents than the boomers? The Xers may be obnoxious helicopter parents, but at least they're trying.
How can we make parents more accountable?
I think social pressure on parents is at an all-time high. Just tell a group of young mothers in NYC that you won't feed your child breast milk and see what happens.
I suppose the question is what exactly we need to make parents accountable for, and what are the problems with children and education at the moment. Tech diversions, NCLB, ultra-high self esteem, and extreme restrictions on classroom teaching methods would top my list.
Teaching in the West?
Hmm...don't know about that...
All the politics, pc-ness, big mouthed and abusive students, may have to pass on that...

What happened to your retirement thread? Why not over-state the obvious over there?
Let me write this down .. if schools lay off tenured teachers the hacks, like warhammer or myself, who'd take their place won't be as affective as those who have been teaching the classes for half their lives? And ... honey - bring me some more writing paper - there is a discipline problem in American schools and to solve this problem the parents and kids will need to be educated? Wow! Who ever would have thought? Preschools looking to employ qualified teachers and clean shitty diapers for 9 bucks an hour! Wow! That's just not fair! Capitalism doesn't work these days! Clarity! That's what you offer this forum toac, clarity!
