Do I need a Criminal Background Check (CBC) the get a work permit?

    Hi -
I'm gearing up to head to Bangkok for my ESL teacher job search. Do I need to bring a CBC with me? On Ajarn's FAQ section, the advice is that it's wise to get one, but no mention is made of which type of CBC is acceptable. I'm an American, and was thinking about using an FBI channeler service to get a copy of my CBC. In other words, I would use a private service to submit my fingerprints and info to the FBI to obtain a CBC report. The cost is $50. I don't want to spend this money if I don't need a CBC, or if this isn't the right CBC for a work permit.

    Any help?

    Thanks,
    Vinny

Yeah, you should get one. And you should do it yourself. Send 18 bucks and your fingerprints to the FBI, google it.
And if $50 is alot of money to you, then you might oughta think about building your savings account up before taking a leap

Good thing to do. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Kingdom of Thailand, Consular Affairs has it as requirement when applying for a non-immigrant B visa although not fully enforced, immigration HQ might want to see it when converting a tourist visa into a non-immigrant B and some schools might have it as requirement.

Thailand is NOT a signatory to the apostille treaty so NO, you do not need an apostille.

I finally got my WP today and a CBC was never even mentioned by my agency, the school admin or the Labor Department.

Oh look, my lighthearted comment was deleted. Yet threads are allowed take all sorts of deviations, by the chosen few, but allowed to stay.

This may be the straw that breaks the camel's back, only time will tell.

Thanks for the information. Other than saving a little bit of money, why should I do this process myself? The FBI website states that if I do it myself, processing time can take five to six weeks! Using a channeler, the process takes five business days.

Yes, $50 is a lot of money to me, regardless of how much money I have saved up. If I don't have to spend money on something, I don't.

I agree 100%! I've been flogged, insulted, called names and so on by a bunch of people with a high post count, then and some of my sarcastic posts were deleted.

Seems like admin is very partial to certain posters or is often talking to himself (herself?).

But I laugh it off, heck, it's just a forum! Sometimes amusing, sometimes idiotic, sometimes unfair, so what. Sometimes even informative but mainly entertaining.

as stamp said, it's rarely enforced and not enforced by the agencies you've mentioned.
