    TEFL/TESOL cert now required?

So, my father read recently that proof of TEFL and TESOL certification is now a legal requirement to obtain an english teaching position in thailand. I am 98% sure that this is not true. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Hahaha... I love that quite. I always use it on chicks that reject me. What's missing is the part where she says one in a million.

Ha! Point taken. I figured it couldn't be a legal requirement. My Dad messaged me in a panic because he read on Teachenglishbangkok.com that TEFL cert. and a tourist visa were required to get a job and was suggesting that I get started on those ASAP.

A TEFL/ TESOL/ CELTA requirement is not a legal requirement for a teaching position in Thailand but it will help you in the Thai classroom. However, a university degree is a legal requirement for working in basic education schools.

There are no legal requirements for teaching in Thailand depending on the school/teacher/officer/day of the week.

I would recommend some sort of teaching course to anyone who's thinking of entering a classroom in a teaching role though. Go for it!

It would be easy enough to laugh at that statement, but then this is Thailand and it wouldn't surprise me at all. By definition though, you CAN'T get a job on a tourist visa because tourist visas are for tourists.
