    Salary

    Hi all,

Am interested in what would be considered a high hourly wage for teaching here?
Would it differ much between an unqualified or qualified teacher?

    Thanks,
    Josh

Josh, of course the difference between a qualified teacher and an unqualified teacher is one that every newbie coming to Thailand asks and is one that every teacher starting out should realize.

    Unqualified teachers:
Low pay, no unpaid time off work - balanced against no expectations of the students actually learning

    Qualified teachers:
Higher pay, paid time off, but higher expectations from the school owners in regards to the students learning something. Of course most of these higher paid teachers have already invested a tidy sum in their education so it's only right they earn a bit more.

Most would probably consider 1200b+ p/h to be high. Depends on different factors though.

Yes. Though 'qualified' could easily be exchanged for 'experienced, great at their job, has made a great name for themselves within a circle of rich clients'.

    Former, 400-700b
    Latter, 1000b+ ++ +++ ++++ +++++

My monthly income from work here has tripled in six years, with the same amount of hours, though average base salaries in the market have stayed the same or even decreased.

It is what you make it.

The question is too vague to be answered in more than just a general way.

So why don't you answer it in a general way?

I really have no idea but I've known teachers to be paid as little as 200 baht an hour and I've known of 2000 baht per hour.

All I would say is, it's not where you start, it's where you finish. Some of the worst teachers I've encountered are knowitall former UK teachers that simply don't have a clue. One of the best was a former US lorry/truck driver.

If he's a yank it's truck. I bet we all already know the difference in Br/Am English. But it's good you broke that down in case any chimpanzees are reading.

It never ceases to amaze how concerned the unqualified are over wages. They're like wannabe whores: I want to do it, I've never done it, how much will they pay me to fake it?

Many people are just "born teachers". Many people are just "born (insert skill here)"

30 Baht to the dollar. $66 per hour. In Thailand. Have a guess.

    ---Update---

... but more often than not ... it would be a part time rate. So it's all relative.

Are you kidding? That's a really high wage in NYC, let alone Thailand. I'd kill to make that much.

Could you not, just once, let one of my comments go by without attaching some nonsense?

Yes, 2000 baht would be at the higher end of the scale, I have had more than that, but only seldom does that gig float by. If you get a part time gig at 2000 baht an hour, I would say that is pretty good and I would grab the opportunity with both hands (but having said that I just turned down a 2000 baht an hour slot at a uni - not enough time).

As a new post as advice you to avoid, run away this Teacher company : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx .com. All the worst things happened to me : diversion of a portion of my salary to an end personal example: count (s) Weekend and therefore blow 2000 Baths. Visa: do not count on them. Promises promises and in the end, in my case, I worked for a pittance. They have a great friendship with the directors and / or sub-principals under which explains that one of my colleagues has never been paid because she had borrowed money to people outside the school personally. take hallucinating fees to receive the wages. beg every month to receive it and even with that, the salary comes out of time under the contract. They even have the gall to call themselves the owner of my apartment that I was not a good person because I will not pay my rent and for recall they are the ones who pay the salaries with a delay to put you in a unusual state of nerve, the apartment was locked and I had to sleep at the hotel!. In short they have the donated to make people really mad. I make judgments with and without evidence for some of their actions and I take full responsibility. For your well being, flee them.
