Hey all,
So, besides my asking for advice on a high school demo lesson today I would also like to ask for some input on the Walen School in Phuket. Welcome to Thai Language School | www.Thaiwalen.com They called me and asked me in for an interview this evening, saying training will start tomorrow! Me being who I am, I am sure I will get offered a position at the high school AND at Walen.Walen has not mentioned salary/hours yet, but I'll post that tonight. Till then I would really appreciate any insight into the Walen school. Any one worked for them?
Thanks in advance!
We're only allowed to say good things about schools.
If you PM me I promise not to tell...
I know nothing about the school.
Oooook, thanks. Anyone heard anything about the conditions at Wallen?
I think they use the Callen "method", which should tell you all you need to know.
Nuts In A Blender
I've been reading up a lot about it and what is said seems quite mixed. Some say it's too simple and restrictive, while others appreciate the simpleness when the students are of a particularly low level.
Ja, so the school offers 250 bht an hour. No visa. No medical. No nothing. Oh, and split shifts. What a joke.
Also a bad sign about the employee pool. There are people who'd take that job and write home with glee.
simple supply and demand, no?
sorry JD, i'd say that's a tired cliche. those folks will take the job and be happy only until they realize what a shit deal they're getting.
yep. you got my reply to this on the other channel.
so shit but i think it actually plays into the local style of learning. though i'm not sure if the students care for it or not.
Oh don't be sorry. I'm not crushed. I see things way differently than you, and I know you're in the loop there in Thailand and I'm not. So the issue at hand is working for 250 an hour, right? You're saying somebody might take that gig but wouldn't keep it for long because it's a shit job, right? Well, who would take that job in the first place, someone not awfully qualified? If the answer is yes then if he/she knows he's not so qualified why would he quit the job? He's bound to meet other teachers who earn more than him .. are they barely qualified as well? The biggest difference between you and me and many of the other members is the matter of judging every know teaching position on its merits as related to income. Not all of us will always opt for the highest paying job. But Romney would.
