hey, just wanted to see if anyone can comment on the current job prospects in Chiang Mai? i have a degree and a freshly minted 120 hr TEFL certificate, thinking about making the move up there this weekend but am nervous to do so since i often read mixed things about finding work up there. i realize many schools started today so i also wanted to find out how that would effect the search come monday and tuesday of next week.
cheers
Chiang Mai is a tough market to find employment.
There are many hopefuls who make their way to CM to find work, only to be disappointed. The old "ten days on the ground and I'll have a job" mantra doesn't hold here. Overall, the amount of job-seekers far outnumber the amount of jobs.
Also, since the new semester just began, it's really not a good time to be looking. Most of the biggest employers are full for now (Varee, Dara, PRC, Montfort), and the language school scene in CM is quite scant when compared to places like Bangkok, obviously.
That said, if you aren't in a hot hurry to find work and can afford a month or two of living without a job, then your prospects would greatly increase. Most jobs in CM aren't advertised, so networking with people in the know (other teachers) is essential.

Actually i saw that Varee advertised yesterday. Try Teaching Vacancies
Chiang Mai is very quiet at the moment, and I am struggling to survive on p/t work. Any offers anyone for teaching adults??
