After a very pleasant meeting at the British Council in Bangkok, I can announce that TEFL International certificates are accepted by the British Council.
The BC does not officially sanction any certificatre but will accept any that they deem to meet international standards. Fortunately for TEFL International and our graduates, we have been accepted.
Just thought the group would like to know.
let the attacks begin. Hehe.
So you are trying to tell us that British Council doesn't accept certificates from certain other providers?
Actually I was not here to say that other providers are not accepted, just that we are.
Giz a job bigman
Guess my teaching credential isn't worth anything then.Originally Posted by Bruce

Ok, comments:
1. I have no idea if it is a good or bad place to work. I will say that they have great facilities!
2. Heck, come to think of it, they did not even offer me water! I am very offended!!!![]()

What are they accepted for? Employment with the British Council in Bangkok? Wow!After a very pleasant meeting at the British Council in Bangkok, I can announce that TEFL International certificates are accepted by the British Council.
Everybody who I've spoken to has commented that they think they are a bunch of flowers (including me). They are wannabe BBC professionals who lack a sense of humour. They give GB a nice image. They are the failed middle-classes living off their earnings.
Anyway, congratulations on aligning yourself with a bunch of bananas.
(I'm very proud of you).
Oh yeah and I have it on good authority from a bloke called XXXX (because he's "got 'mates' there" apparently) that the place is a complete haven for both students and teachers of English alike.![]()
Well in the end, it is not my job to decide where our graduates should or shoulld not work. It is my responsiblity to make sure they have as many OPPORTUNITIES as possible. If none of our graduates ever works there I really do not care. At least they could if they chose to.
Water is self-service there - there are water coolers with little paper cones to drink form, that's how I remember it.
Congratulations, Bruce.
BC isn't a good place to work for, you know. The salaries and facilities, and students, and fellow teachers. It's a lot better at any other alphabet soup school, according to many of ajarn posters.
Yes, but you'll still need Flexibility, Teamwork, Entrepreunership (and be able to spell it), not to mention Leadership and awesome IT skills to even look at a BC, or at least say you have in the telephone interview. And as BC Teaching Centre Managers get brownie points for saving cash, anyone already in Bangkok would likely miss out on flights, accommodation allowances and other benefits (such as not getting a local contract).
Oh yeah, the BC Bangkok usually insist on at least 200 hours post-cert young learners experience - not some rumour, it's stated in all their teaching vacancies.
p.s. I worked at BC, was OK I suppose. Why doesn't anyone admit working there?
Added after 6 minutes:
oops, I guess you still need 2 year's post-cert experience too?
