Jobs in Surat Thani - sensible answers are allowed.

I've had enough of the hell-hole of humanity a.k.a Bangkok so I thought Surat Thani might make a better change.

    ie: close to islands etc..

Now last time I posted on here with a similar such question I was just met with smart arse responses and derision - finally to have my thread binned through no fault of my own.

Is there much Tefl work down there and do they have things like shops, electricity and running water for example?

How anyone can enjoy living in the rat and cockroach infested slum of BK I will never know - still I suppose if you live in a condo you can spend your hours looking down on the peasants below or something.

So ST it may be - thus my w/ends could be spent going to Samui and Ko Pan ngan - that must sure beat the hell out of Pattaya (or more likely not).

Anyone know the deal down there?

After all of your negativity toward teaching. Teachingof any kind. Of EFL....

You still haven't left the undustry yet?

After what you've said about your students?

I think most people here would agree that teaching in a chain language school (as I do ) is a joke - thus my negativity.

If I could leave the industry and find another job in TL I would , but obviously that isn't an option.

    Watdog - greetings again..

I'm planning on doing a quick reconnoitre of the area at Songkran.

I lived there. No, no running water, very few shops, occasional electricity, no land lines and spotty mobile service.

I got used to bathing and brushing my teeth in the Tapee River, burning candles at night and walking to work. There are no taxis or tuk tuks. The shops often close just after 10 AM, they're afraid of marauding highwaymen headed South to Hat Yai from BKK. Some, they say, are terrorists.

I haven't yet become a joke I hope but am certainly turning into a crap teacher - ie: just doing bugger all in class.

This whole 'teaching in Thailand' charade is now only propped up for me by the use of marijuana and alcohol.

Perhaps a move out of BK to where there is a little more space could help?

JD is obviously pulling your leg but it occured to me you might take him seriously.

I am not sure about positions but I think you will find it a bit of a run to live in Surat, and spend weekends on the Islands. Perhaps long weekends. Weekends...I think a bit to far.

I've spent a fair bit of time visiting in Surat and can say I don't personally care for the place. Seems dirty and generally devoid of character.

Well dirty and devoid of character isn't anything new as I'm currently living in a not so glamorous suburb of Bangkok.

I'll look into the ferry times for visiting the islands - I thought it was only about 4 hours or so?

I guess the work could be a bit thin on the ground.
