Though I'd give it its own thread, sure JD won't mind! I quite like to while away 10 minutes between classes with a few posts in the games room, but as someone who mainly refreshes the new posts page to find what I'm looking for - it is a pain in the arse when the first page is mainly games room threads. The same thread titles coming up again and again!

If I want the games room I can click on it in the index.

Is it possible? Do others think such a good idea?

sure, I think it's a good idea... could it be taken even further and have the new posts only include, say, Pracs, staff and class-room and Visa? And if there has to be a bit of the softer reading material dining, comps and sports (not too many new posts there, though, so most often, they'd not show up anyway, but still....)

I do quite like to follow pub and sports threads (and occasionally soap box) though and see when there are new posts.

ahhh, yes... I was thinking mainly on the frontpage-thingy... not sure it's doable at all for the new posts search-thingy... that would have to include a hack to the search function telling it to exclude a certain forum (or perhaps which to include)... uncle louis would have to look at the code... wonder whether the search at present includes the ice-box. If it doesn't, well, then we know it's doable

I use the index, as I find the new posts pages slower to load, and the way I have my control panel set up it goes to oldest thread, and its a pain in the ass. Its still pretty easy all and all.

I only use the index after an absence from the board.

A lot of our opinion about suggestions is based on our Internet and computer speed. A guy who smokes two ciggies waiting for a page to load is at a loss if he waits it out only to find a page of off-topic chat. It's like the audio tech in a recording studio; he mixes the recording with studio monitor speakers that cost $2,000 each, driven with the top of the line everything. You play it on your car stereo and the subtleties aren't there, but they were in the studio. Have pity on the slow to load crowd.

Waay ahead of you...I say JD's suggestion yesterday and have already omitted all but the more relavent rooms posts from the front page recent posts list and expanded it from 10-15 posts.

Discus is quite right however that the new posts search page could not be tweaked like this.
