Burma or Laos

Ok

I have been to Laos on holiday a few times but all i did there was get stoned in vang vien for a few days then come back.

The missus and I want a few days break maybe a week or so and can't decide on Burma or Laos.

So what do Thais have to do to get entry what do farangs have to do - how much are visas, where to go how much to budget. how to get there.

Yes I know i payed 3000B at the friendship bridge into laos but have been told that visas in Kon Kaen are 1600B

Is the new bridge at Thalis into Laos open for westerners?

Know bugger all about Burma -

No flaming as this post can help other if people have been etc. I know I am lazy but sometimes its nice to be spoon fed.

How long are you going for mate? I know you used to be able to get 15 day Laos Visa from KSR travel agents (not dodgy Visas) which was cheaper than getting the 30 day one from the Embassy. This was a few years ago though.

The Burmese Embassy is on Sathorn Road and quite close to a BTS station. I forget how much a visa costs for a westerner, but do recall you could pay a bit extra to have it processed in just a couple of hours. Otherwise, it takes a day. Bring a few passport photos. I have no idea what the requirements are for Thais, but if you bring double the money you would for yourself, plus passport photos of your wife, you should be OK.

Burma's run down as fok.....Shwedagon is amazing....and so's that Golden Rock on the mountain.

Luang Prabang is the most chilled place in Asia. Beautiful too! Smoke in Vang Vieng then move up to LP.

300 quid in days sounds rather frugal to me. A decent hotel (with generators) in Rangoon is about $25 a night.
