Was going to ride down, but the dealer is dragging getting my white plates (the ones that let you travel out of your province, my current ones are red) ....next week, next week, next week......
It's supposed to be hot as a firecracker.

are you sure you can't leave your province?
I went touring up north for 2 weeks on my red plates, an no one said anything, as long as the diary is up to date

Hi,
I too am on red plates at the moment and had to make a trip out of Bangkok. I went along to the Transport Dept. offices in Chatuchak and was told that it is now no problem to do this... Been on two up-country trips since and had no probs..
Cheers

Thanks guys for the info on the plates. I was told I can't drive at night or out of the province (by people nosey know-it-alls who don't have vehicles, so I should've known) but was also told that by the dealer, and I told him I had been stopped twice, but not ticketed (I didn't even have to pay bribes!).
I have been riding at night, even followed by cops but not pulled over. The dealer said it's because I'm farang, which I might believe could go either way (farang = money, or farang = don't bother messing with him because he's probably got a license that I could not understand or write him up on, and I don't want to mess with the whole tourist image.)
After the above information, I may re-think things and drive to the beach anyway. Thanks again

So what's the big deal about 'getting round the island'?
Most of Samet has been ruined by the boy and their toys - especially bikes and jet skis.
The noise created by that and the beach discos has made air conditioning and sealed rooms a virtual necessity. This has pushed up prices and exponentially increased power consumption.
The magic of hearing no noise except the waves has been replaced by the moronic inferno that rages in places like Pattaya.
Oh well, at least there are still a few places around LoS yet to be wrecked by you and your like.

The big deal Cy is that it's a beautiful national park
so unless ur braindead u'd want to see all of it

Samet doesn't even have any paved roads,,,,,it's still beautifully natural
