Laos - Ive just remembered Im taking the missus to Laos
First of all
1) Where is the Laos embassy in Kon Kaen - my flight is to there for some reason?
2) What the hell am I going to do with her in Laos- I don't really want to take her to Vang Vien to hang out with Isralies for a week.
3) Any good tailors in Laos
4) Do I really need to rent $15 rooms or are $4 aircon ones accetable - last time I was there I stayed in a really nice $4 room clean tiled airconned hot water good bed - not sure what to do this time?

You can get a 15 day on arrival, yes? Vang Vieng has good caves and if you pay more than $4 you avoid the Israelis. Is there a hebrew word for please anyway??

Laos is a great place. Actually, I would recommend the south. Pakse is an interesting town. It is the gateway to Champassak, which has a nice temple. It is set back on a hill. It is nice. You can also go to Si Pan Don, which has a nice town. It is Muang Ton, I believe. It is a very quiet laid-back place. You can rent a bike and go around the island. I could also recommend Savnahaket. It is a nice, laid-back town.
Fly to KK. Stay a night at Kaen Inn (500 baht a night). Go on a 5 minute walk to a tailor shop where I got a suit cut (jacket and 2 pants) for 6200-6600 baht (I forget). Done in 3 days. Good suits.
Then take a blue air con bus to Laos (station is 2 minute walk from Kaen Inn). Buses are cheap and comfortable and will take you right to Nong Khai ( a 50-60 baht tuk tuk ride to the border)-then get your Visa upon arrival.
Definitely hit Vientienne and eat Indian at 'Nazim' on the 'riverside'. Great and cheap. There is also a very nice, clean hotel, newly built or refurbished with aircon rooms for 400-600 baht (he'll knock a bit off the rpice if you opt out of the breakfast).
Pick up your finished suit in Khon Kaen on the way back.
While in KK be sure to grab a drink at 'Zolid Discotheque'..in the basement of the Charoen Thani hotel. Some saucy live acts and good fun. Go late. About 10pm.
Lao Consulate in Khon Kaen. On Thanon Prachasamoson nearly opposite a Jet Petrol station. From the old bus station (not the airbus one) as you face the road turn left and follow the road for about a mile. The consulate is on the right with the Lao flag fluttering outside. It's housed in a pretty ordinary looking townhouse style building so keep your eyes peeled. If you're flying in to KK when you leave the airport and you hit a major set of traffic lights (i think the 3rd set from the airport) that's the main Mitraparp Hightway running left to right. If you go straight on that's Thanon Prachasamoson and the bus station is a couple of hundred yards on the left. Last time I went to Lao I dropped my passport up at the consulate in the morning and they processed it while I waited. About 30 minutes. Price was 1200 baht but that was a couple of years ago.
Can you please advice how much for the missus to go into Lao on her Thai passport and how long she can stay.
I want to take my wife and kids in on thier Thai passports as it would be way too much for us to all go in on our Canadian Passports (i prefer they always use their canadian passports for travel out of Thailand, but for what Lao charges Canadians for a Visa I could make an exception. )
