Hey guys,
Have used the search engine but can't really find anything useful. Just wondering if anyone knew anything about Pai - It's got a Muay Thai camp with a great reputation and looks to be about as cheap as it gets. Was looking on some info on nightlife, scenary etc. Anything would be gratefully received

Re: Anyone know anything about Pai?
Dodgy policemen (man), Israelis, soap dodgers, beautiful scenery, cheap place to stay, some fun locals, tough to cycle to from Chiang Mai, weed, strange brown things on your plate in some veggie restaurant. I could go on, but you get the picture? Fun to visit, would annoy me after a day or two. I think it is a personal choice, I don't hang around for long spells in these kinds of places as eventually I find myself wandering around with a bar of soap trying to push random strangers into lakes and rivers and clean them up. It is a shocker when I could teach them a thing or two about hygiene - and I don't take enough showers (according to the Mrs), so you can imagine what these folk are like....
Lonely Planet Thailand author lives there. That is enough to keep me away. LOL
Soap-dodger
Meaning
A scruffy or dirty person; one who washes rarely.
Origin
This derogatory term was coined in the UK in the late 1980s/early 1990s. It was often applied to that itinerant drop-out group the 'New Age travellers', who are also derided as 'crusties'.

Now, are the soap dodgers of Pai also trustifarians?

For the most part no, mostly poor folks who haven't had a direction in life since Jerry Garcia died.
Nice scenery though, some nice waterfalls and good trekking nearby. Love the cruise up the winding roads to Mae Hong Son. I stayed at Baan Tawan, which is right on the river, when I was there. Met my first Thai girlfriend that was 20 years my elder up there. I'm still enamored by her grace in the way she moved, meditated and in everything she did.
Next time you're up there tell the hippie backpackers that no matter how much patchouli they wear they still stink. I can only imagine what the Thais with their highly sensitive noses go through.

Of course he ruddy isn't! He's a cop awaiting trial on murder charges! Ruddy hell.
He's working at the Pang Ma Pa police station 44 miles away instead.
Quote:
A Thai policeman has been transferred to another station after being charged with killing a Canadian and attempting to kill the man's former girlfriend in the northern tourist town of Pai, police said on Thursday. Sergeant Uthai Dechawiwat, allowed to walk free after surrendering to police, was reassigned to the town of Pang Ma Pa, 70 km (44 miles) away.
"We don't want witnesses to feel awkward when they go to Pai station for interviews and see Uthai there,"
I'm sure his mates have no problems in providing the 'awkwardness' should witnesses desire to provide an interview.
Oh yeah. Pai...
Bomb the shithole.

I love the place, it is not really Thailand but a beautiful hippie paradise all the same. Let me put it this way; every major city in the world has a Chinatown, a place where the Chinese have claimed their own in a foreign country. Pai is the farang version of Chinatown in Thailand.

If the 'Chinatown' in question is where Chinese society shat out the the most filthy retarded scum it had been unfortunate to produce, than yes, Pai is the 'farang' version.
Transport all the poor hilltribe folk to a safe distance, then Napalm it.
