Hi,
First time posting on the forum, although I've been "lurking" for the past year. I've always planned on going to Thailand to live, but this year I've decided to go there for a holiday as a "taster".
I'll be going to Koh Samui in August to train Muay Thai, relax on the beach and attend the various moon parties for 10 days, then off to Hong Kong for 5 days to meet a friend. The plan is to get a return flight from the UK to Hong Kong, and then immediately to Koh Samui for 10 days, and then back to Hong Kong for 5.
I've budgeted £1500 which is around 75300 baht for flights and accomodation for 15 days. I'm hoping to get a cheap hotel (I'll need wi-fi, since I run a few websites which will need monitoring) so I'm hoping for a room at 1000baht a night (£20). I know Koh Samui and Phangan have inflated prices so is this a realistic price?
I'm also setting aside another £1500 for food, drink and other things.
Hong Kong will be alot more expensive I think, many hotels I've seen are going for around £50 a night.
I've been reading quite a bit about Thailand, and from what I've read Koh Samui and Phangan seem quite a bit like "Ibiza". Personally, I like beach parties, but Ibiza with it's drunken British chavs isn't really my scene. So I'm also thinking of Phuket as an alternative.
I'd appreciate any feedback!
BTW, anyone here from Norwich, UK?
