Phuket to Bangkok bus or plane?

    Hi everyone,

I'm planning on taking a Tefl course in Chaing Mai. I want to travel before my course starts though. My plan is to fly to Phuket and go from there. Should I travel to Bangkok by bus or plane? I think i'm going to take the train to Chaing Mai from Bangkok because I have done so before.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks in advance

There is no train to Phuket. You would go to Surat Thani, the stop for Samui, and a coach will take you from there. Another 3.5 hours.

You can try Welcome to AirAsia.com, The World's Best Low-Cost Airline they often have great deals and it does not matter when you purchase. I just got 4 one way tickets to Phuket next april. Total 920 baht. Yes that is right. I think for travel up to september you can get seats on some flights for 600 baht, then there are about 300 baht in charges but no fuel charge. Costs you 50 baht to check an up to 15 kilo bag. Lots of people complain. They have been great with on time and just ease for me the five times we have flown them.

Probably about 300 baht more for an hour and 15 minute flight, opposed to a 16 hour train and bus ride.

I usually teleport, but for those that haven't gotten the hang of such things, I'd recommend an aeroplane.

That bus trip is a whole lotta boring!

The bus is around 800 baht and a 12 hour ride. You can get a flight for less and get there in 70 minutes. It's a nice flight too.

Some of the time but not all its funny. Right now they are running 500 to 1200 with the 300 baht in taxes. But always check as right now they are not full. At the end they discount again. When I last flew with them I booked what I thought was a great deal 3 months in advance. Only to find out 2 weeks before we flew the price was now half what I paid. Such is life on low cost carriers.

True, but Air Asia generally has good prices and it sure as hell beats 12 hours on a bus.

Last month when I flew back with the kids a strange thing happened. The flight was 2:20 but they started boarding at 1:30 and closed the doors at 2:05 and we were in the air two minutes later. Cool as hell.

Why not fly directly to bangkok? Seems alot cheaper than flying to phuket from outside thailand when i investigated!

OK ive never actually been to thailand yet (i go in september) but from research it seems most logical (money and suchforth) to fly to bangkok then depart to other places

    I may be wrong though!

How much have you been quoted to fly to Phuket from outside Thailand in comparison with Bangkok? Mine was £400 difference!

Why don't you book a flight from BKK to HKT direct from Nok Air or Air Asia? It would only be about £60.

That does make sense actually. The only problem is I'm taking my course in Chaing Mai.

Re: Phuket to Bangkok bus or plane?

Depends on how much time you've got... and money. I'd fly to Bangkok... stay a few nights (if that's your thing) Fly to Phuket, fly back to Bangkok then fly onto Chang Mai. You can get great deals as others have mentioned and for the sake of a couple hundred baht the difference is massive.

I always find the Bus and Trains a bit of a false economy.. Due to the time spent on them, I always ended up buying snacks, a paper, etc... and didn't really save myself anything.

Mike please read the posts above. The current rates on Air Asia have been quoted. No where near 60 pounds. in fact right around 20.
