So we are in our final few days in Chiang Mai. Our TEFL starts the 24th in Krabi town. We have decided to bypass going north to Pai and are now going to fly our of Chiang Mai to Krabi (4155 baht).
What I need to know is a good rec for a guesthouse for me and my girlfriend for a couple days on the beach before we get started in Krabi town the 24th.
So what is a decently priced place in Krabi near the beach, not necessarily on the beach, but a short (no more than 20 minute) motorbike ride to the beach. We need a place to stay for about 5 days and want to soak up the beach as much as we can before we have to buckle down and do our TEFL course.
Is Ao Nang the answer? Or do we need to look elsewhere? We want to stay under 1000 baht a night for SURE, we would really love to find a place from 200-600.
A bungalow or guesthouse would work just fine.
Please give me reccomendations. Also, I would appreciate, because we are on limited internet time, that you reccomendations come from this decade. So don't tell me that you paid 2 baht a night when it was still Siam.
Thanks in advance!

Don't take offense to my old timer commentWe are putting in research time, but we also like to utilize tools such as this discussion board to save time and get first hand accounts as opposed to random promos.
Any suggestions?
We are looking into Ton Sai, anyone?

it's a piece of piss to find anywhere under 1000bht. and 4155baht to fly down? that's ridiculous is it not?
It does sound pricey. Personally I would have taken some time and worked my way down by train. A couple of nights in some of the smaller towns is a good way to explore and get off the beaten path.
Where's the spirit of adventure? Always reserving ahead?![]()
Do you have coke?
^Yeah. It was free when it was still Siam.
We did the train up here from Bangkok and did not really enjoy it, we don't want to spend an entire day on a train t bangkok and then pay 2500 baht for a flight to Krabi from BKK. We would just as well spend an extra 1600 baht to fly the whole way and get the day to relax as opposed to saving 1000 baht an spending an entire day on a sweaty train.
We don't mind paying $160 to get from Chiang Mai to Krabi on a 3 hour flight
I think we are going to stay in a guesthouse called Chan A Lay, it got good reviews. It is in Krabi town, but we dont mind a 20 minute motorbike ride to the beach from the guesthouse. We dont spend much time at the guesthouse anyhow sans sleeping.
Thanks for the responses.
Anyone here located in Krabi or have anything nice to say about it or any reccomendations/advice.
Thanks

We saw a couple inexpensive places on East Raillay. Is it nice there? Nice beaches at least?
^Yeah. It's nice there. You might enjoy a day of rock-climbing if you're into that sort of thing.
Do Raillay, dude. It's killer. Walk the path out past the poshy posh resort and to the beach on the other side for the sunset. It's pretty unforgettable. (Over near one of the rock climbing walls, and a big overhang).
