    Samet:The Other Side

I've been to Samet 100 times, but I've always stayed on, or around Sa Kaew beach. Have any of you stayed on Ao Phao beach, or possibly at the far end of the island?

    Cheers

much better, but more expensive. imo, worth the extra charge as you dont deal with the backpackers and general riffraff. stayed at ao prao way back in '08 (solid 4 stars), but think theres a cheaper option now off the beach a bit. youll need transportation.

no complaints. pretty much the same as siam beach on koh chang (at least how it was before all the 3-4 star condos were developed in the past 3-4 yrs). good sand, only rocks on the sides, private. good all-around setup. but its pricey unless u find a deal.

the far southern end of samet has some cool boutique, maldives/bali-wannabe places. they might be worth looking at, as theyll likely be cheaper this time of the year. they were all being built the last time i was on samet, but they definitely looked like they had potential. very off the beaten path, though.

    True.
I just checked Ao Phrao Resort. about 11k for two nights, but we're traveling with three kids, so it'll probably be even more. I'm looking at Ao Wai Beach, and Samed Ville Resort. May be more in my price range.

stayed at lima coco many years ago very nice
ao phrao is niced but apart from the som tam shop the food is shocking at the resorts and very over priced; also gets hit with hordes of jelly fish at times so impossible to get in the water.

Ao Phrao is a bit pricey but it is a great beach and offers beautiful sunsets unlike the other side of the island. Stayed there a few times and would recommend it. Bottle of white, a massive bean-bag cushion, amazing suroundings, great service. Highly recommend it. I think I paid 3800 last November.
