Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I thought The Queen was OK. I'd agree that the subject matter wasn't all that appealing (to me at least) so you tend to watch such films with a critical eye.
I always enjoy watching Helen Mirren though because you're watching someone at the top of her game. What an amazing actress.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Helen Mirren was wonderful. I also thought the Prince Phillip character was so droll and out of it that he was hilarious, especially when he suggested the answer to the boys mourning for their mother was to take them out for a spot of shooting deer, old chap, you know!!!
Very new age sensitive...not!
I was amused that when I saw it on a Thai Air flight they had censored out a scene which referred to an opinion poll suggesting moist Brits wanted the monarchy abolished. Not a welcome thought in LOS, apparently.

^Yeah Prince Phillip really got it bad in that film. Was he really that cold-hearted during that time?

Hero Wanted (2008)
Cuba Gooding, Ray Liotta
After he awakens in a hospital, a man tracks down and murders the man that left him and a bank teller for dead during a robbery, only to end up having the slain thief's associates come after him in retaliation
4/10. You'd expect better from Cuba Gooding and Ray Liotta but this is nothing but straight-to-DVD vigilante nonsense. Simply awful. I'd rather rub my forearms vigorously with an Australian box jellyfish than sit through it again.

To be fair, I really wouldn't and haven't done for a long time. Jerry Maguire was a long time ago now.

He played quite a nice little cameo in 'As Good As It Gets'

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
That was a little more than a cameo and yeah, you're right it wasn't half bad but for every As Good As It Gets there's at least one Boat Trip, a handful of Norbit's and at least a brace of Rat Races and Snow Dogs. As Good As It Gets was actually only a year after JM in any case.
Actually, he was OK in American Gangster too. The guy's undoubtedly deserving of a spot in the Hollywood Whore thread that was rattling around the forum a short while back.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Forced myself to watch Superbad. Took about 6 hours because I kept pausing it out of boredom. I'd heard it was a more intelligent comedy as compared to what normally comes out of Hollywood. I thought it was puerile, predictable crap. Not really any different than American Pie or Porky's. 3/10

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Little Voice (1998)
Michael Caine, Ewan MacGregor, Brenda Blethyn, Jane Horrocks, Jim Broadbent
The pathetically shy LV lives the life of a recluse listening to her late fathers old records in her room and in the process driving her abusive, loud-mouthed mother, Mari Hoff, to distraction. At night, however, when her father's ghost visits, LV sings the songs of the great divas such as Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and Shirley Bassey.
4/10. I thought I'd unearthed one of those long forgotten little British gems. I hadn't. It was rubbish.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I just watched what will surely turn out to be one of the worst filums of the year, I can't possibly put into words just how crap this one is so I will just say:
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T WATCH SHROOMS
To think I paid 30B to watch that. I could have bought a couple of pot noodles instead, got diarrhoea and still felt better about myself afterwards. At least I would have got some change.

Apt pupil. Sir Ian Mackellan as an ex-Nazi war criminal and some little brat who blackmails him to help with his homework. Same director as Usual Suspects, Superman returns and X men (Bryan Singer).

Saw Control the day before yesterday. The story of Ian Curtis. As you'd expect, it doesn't end well. Good film though, if you're a fan of the band. The guy who plays Curtis does an excellent job. Great music throughout obviously. I ended up thinking "what a wasteful idiot" at the end, rather than "what a misunderstood, troubled, genius" type of thinking, if yernowhaddImean?
Definitely worth a look.

Should have let Hollywood handle it mate. Either Sandler or Stiller would have lightened it up considerably.
