Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
There's sad and then there's manipulative though. I remember watching that Pay It Forward movie a few years ago and while I thought it was a little too wishy washy and saccharine it was on the whole not a particularly shit movie. However, that was before ***SPOILER*** they for absolutely no reason killed off the little boy at the end. The story was essentially over. The kid dying served no purpose to the theme and story of the film only that it served to make stupid women leave a trail of kleenex as they exited the multiplex. Cheap calculated Hollywood cuntery.

I just saw "The Departed" again. Scary shit...do the Massachussets State Police not challenge the movie?...although it also belts the FBI...and they don't have any reputation left do they?

To be fair it was a very faithful remake of a superior Hong Kong film called Infernal Affairs. Scorcese just changed the location and the language and added a shitty love triangle. There's nothing to challenge.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I don't go to the cinema and just rely on torrents to watch on my DVD player.
I've downloaded a load of Akira Kurusawa films but can't get the subtitles embedded, so can only watch them on my 'puter. Pity, really, as one of the films I have is RAN which really needs to be watched on a wide screen.
I can also recommend Onibaba by Kaneto Shindō. It's a 1965 film, in black and white, but still hasn't lost it's atmosphere.
On a more recent note, one torrent I downloaded was Stardust. I expected it to be a rather smarmy kid's film but was pleasently surprised. I'd recommend it to anyone, especially to see Robert De Niro as the pirate captain who helps the couple.
He has a secret life which, as one wizened member of the crew commented 'We always knew you were a bit of a whoopsie'.
My daughter, who was over here last month, watched it something like three times, I think then took the disk back with her to the UK for her son to watch.

What are you using to view the films? Are the sub files there? If so and you're not already using it download VLC Player. Open the program > go to file > open file > click on the 'Use subtitles file' check box > Browse > Find the subs file you have and double click it > click the Browse button above for the AVI/WMV or whatever itself and double click that before clicking OK in the bottom right and Sanjuro's your father's Yojimbo.

I have the sound track, which is a seperate STR file (or something like that) and both play with no problems on any of my computer movie players.
It's just that I want to embed the subtitles so that I can record to DVD disc and play on my DVD player and onto my TV.
I've had loads of 'it's dead easy' advice but none of the software recommended to me seem to work.

I recommend the software ConvertXtoDVD, have you tried that one? You can render the subtitles I believe.
Also, does your DVD player have a subtitles button? Dumb question, but it took me a while to figure out that on my own!
I can't imagine they'd make a DVD player that wouldn't recognize some form of subtitles file. If yours doesn't recognize .srt, maybe you could convert the files to another format and include them in your next burn.

Apparently it was based loosely on Whitey Bulger...who apparently was so interested he risked his run from custody to watch it in a cinema...any law enforcement agency ignoring a movie claiming to be about them like that is definitely suspect IMO. Great music as well...the Pogues would be impressed for sure.

I think I tried that, along with dozens of others. I guess it must be me, though.

Um, I have a desktop computer in one room and the TV in another - or can you get some ultra long cables for this?
I watched one of my torrent downloads the other night for about the fifth or sixth time.
O Brother, where art thou.
Great film even though it a few years old. I also managed to download what I think is one of the funniest films made - My Cousin Vinny, bloody hilarious.
