Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I must have been in a light mood, because I enjoyed this remake (and I don't usually).
The KK dinosaur fight scenes were pretty wicked and the native's darkness, creepy.
8/10 for a "FLICK" rating.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Bride of Frankenstein (1935) for the umpteenth time.
What can you say about this movie? It's perfect.
Interestingly, both the 1931 Frankenstein and 1935 Bride of Frankenstein have been recently re-released to theaters in France.
And, after 80 years, these movies still have the power to draw crowds and critical adulation.
You can read some of the French critic's comments at the excellent Frankensteinia website.
I don't see this happening in the states. Leave it to the French to keep our great film history alive!

Just saw "wanted" very entertaining, funny, great effects, a bit predictable (and the bullet bending ) but nonetheless I'll still give it an 8/10
BTW Angelina Jolie looks extremely skinny in this one, scary really, looks like an anorexia patient

The Painted Veil (2006)
Naomi Watts, Edward Norton
The Painted Veil is a love story set in the 1920s that tells the story of a young English couple, Walter, a middle class doctor and Kitty, an upper-class woman, who get married for the wrong reasons and relocate to Shanghai, where she falls in love with someone else. When he uncovers her infidelity, in an act of vengeance, he accepts a job in a remote village in China ravaged by a deadly epidemic, and takes her along. Their journey brings meaning to their relationship and gives them purpose in one of the most remote and beautiful places on earth.
10/10. Not normally a fan of period dramas but this was one terrific film. Great acting, great scenery and definitely one I'd sit through again.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
^ I really liked No Country for Old Men.
We saw Hellboy II Saturday at the cinema, my only comment is wait for the DVD or download.
Although the wife said she liked it better than the first one.

Hellboy 2 was very fucking ordinary I thought. Rubbish baddies to be fair. I'm not knocking the lad from Bros it's just that the film could have done with a few more evil bastards too. More of an entourage for him. I just never got the impression that the world was actually in danger. The creature design just like in Del Toro's other flicks was, again, marvellous though. It's a great looking movie.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Last night I watched Ensemble, C'est Tout with Audrey Tautou which is French with English subtitles. She's not that attractive in my opinion but the roles that she plays and her performances are captivating, she is one actor whose filums I will watch regardless of the subject matter and any negative reviews (which is why I watched that steaming turd The DaVinci Code). This filum certainly didn't disappoint me and she was as entertaining as usual in this story of some 20-somethings who end up together in a grand old house until it is sold off. The two supporting actors Guillaume Canet and Laurent Stocker brilliantly portray two social misfits who attempt to combat their respective behavioural problems. The character that I liked the most was that of Françoise Bertin who plays Canet's grandmother who is forced out of her home and away from her cats due to ill health.
I also saw Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Don't bother. Although, having said that, the animated parts of the filum were pretty good.

I love Audrey Tautou. I watched half of The da Vinci code just for her in a business suit. I couldn't take much more of it though and switched it off.

I watched Memory here at home yesterday. It didn't get very good reviews originally, but I found it pretty interesting. Anyone else here seen it?

I generally try to avoid films that have Billy Zane in the lead role.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Vantage Point (2008)
William Hurt, Dennis Quaid, Forrest Whittaker
The attempted assassination of the American President is told and re-told from several different perspectives.
8/10. Been meaning to watch this for ages. Very good movie I thought. Lots of thrills and spills and a car chase to rival the Bourne Ultimatum. It's also only 83 minutes so an ideal film to stick on if you're not up for a two and a half hour Kite Runner.
The Kingdom (2007)
Jamie Foxx
A team of U.S. government agents is sent to investigate the bombing of an American facility in the Middle East.
8/10. Good tense political thriller even though you might have to suspend belief for the last 20 minutes as the four government agents take on a whole army of Saudi terrorists.
