Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Forgot to post that I saw Batman last week, fucking superb! Heath Ledger died in his prime for sure, he was amazing but so were the rest of the cast! The best film I've seen in a LONG time! I was sat in the cinema for 3 hours but I loved every second of the movie.

Everything but to be fair, in the main I think that 'British Gangster Flicks' are fucking arse. You probably liked The Business. Actually as opposed to my rehashing it I'll just quote my post on the subject from the 'Which Movies Will You Avoid Like The Plague?' thread:

Horrible film about horrible people and utterly lacking in any humanity. It's possibly as bad as The Business.......mmmmmmmmmmm...maybe not quite as bad...................................actually maybe it was worse. I don't know, it was shit either way. They're both shit. It's like someone gave someone a film budget and said 'make a gritty gangster film for a Sun reading white van man and make sure there's loads of gratuitous violence'.
The Business? The story, acting, scripting - all awful. Cockney rhyming slang, Spandau Ballet songs and people calling each other 'mugs' for an hour and a half before the cheeky anti-hero makes his getaway in the obligatory Mark Rentonesque manner does not a good film make. The Business substitutes a script for lairy cockney slanging matches, gurning and people fronting up to each other and calling each other tobys and suchlike. It's one dimensional, it's boring, it's gash.
The thing is about the UK though, it's not like it's really ever had that much of a gangster history. All we've had is the odd bunch of moronic wideboys that invariably get shat on by foreigners who come in that are willing to use any means necessary. Most of our 'gangsters' are just ex bank robbers living it up in Pattaya nowadays while the turks, the albanians and the russians run the british underworld. There's really no wonder the majority of british gangster flicks are so gash when they have fuck all real life shit to draw on.
Snatch though not in the same league of shiteness is really, really fucking overrated by so many people.

OK then.........but it does pose the question why do you watch Brit gangster flicks if you don't like that genre?

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I watched ROTF over my friend's house while we waited for some big fight to start one night. So it wasn't my choice on that occasion. The Business I watched because people told me it was good. It wasn't, it was terrible. It is terrible. So is ROTF. They are poorly made products irrespective of the subject matter. I'd possibly rewatch them if I ever had a prolonged period of homesickness as I'm sure they would be just the ticket for remedying that particular malady.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
The Counterfeiters (2007)
English Subtitles
The Counterfeiters is the true story of the largest counterfeiting operation in history, set up by the Nazis in 1936. Salomon "Sally" Sorowitsch is the king of counterfeiters. He lives a mischievous life of cards, booze, and women in Berlin during the Nazi-era. Suddenly his luck runs dry when arrested by Superintendent Friedrich Herzog. Immediately thrown into the Mauthausen concentration camp, Salomon exhibits exceptional skills there and is soon transferred to the upgraded camp of Sachsenhausen.
9/10. Another engrossing concentration camp survival story. Excellent film!

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Talking of Brit gangster movies I watched Gangster Number One again the other day. Love it. Seedy as shit plus I love a movie where they aren't afraid to use excessive profanity to add to the story. Malcolm McDowell looking like he's about to drink from the champagne glass which has the splashes off piss in it when he stood it next to the urinal while he took a slash.
Looks straight into the camera as he's about to sip.
"What do you take me for? A cunt?"
Dump his cigar butt in the glass.
Class.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
This is certainly the most long-lived thread I've started so I better continue to contribute.
Finally saw Batman:The Dark Knight on Saturday in Brissie and really enjoyed it - its ****. Heath Ledger was really good at being bad - certainly his best work ever.
Have to say the rest of the cast were pretty ordinary by comparison - not bad, but lacking distinction.
The stunts were really good and I definitely want one of those motorcycles, but I read they're very difficult to ride, which I can imagine.
If you can suspend disbelief at the nonsensical premise of the movies, the result was pretty good.
The son and his wife saw The Forbidden Kingdom and gave it 2.5 stars. I haven't seen it - what do you think?

Not too much mate. Some of the slang had to be referred to my dear Geordie. He's the one who needs subtitles.
