That would be The Shawshank Redemption, PT.

Starship Troopers is huge fun.

Oh wait, were you taking the piss?

3.10 to Yuma. Very enjoyable western. I'm sufficiently moved to download some more.

A Korean movie called Hansel and Gretel. Pretty good. Pretty fucked up. This guy wakes up in the woods after a car accident, is taken home by a young girl, ends up staying there with her and her siblings for a few days, much to his dismay, and then finds out all the adults who have stayed in that house before have mysteriously disappeared.

Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? (2008)
Morgan Spurlock

If Morgan Spurlock has learned anything from over 30 years of movie-watching, its that if the world needs saving, its best done by one lone man willing to face danger head on to take it down, action hero style. So, with no military experience, knowledge or expertise, he sets off to do what the CIA, FBI and countless bounty hunters have failed to do: find the worlds most wanted man.

9/10. Hats off to Morgan Spurlock for making this docufilm and going into some seriously dangerous territories. A very good follow-up to the excellent Supersize Me and a thoroughly enjoyable hour and a half's viewing.

Secrets and Lies (1996)
Brenda Blethyn, Timothy Spall

Successful black woman traces her birth mother to a lower-class white woman, who denies it; emotions run high as everyone's secrets are exposed.

10/10. I treated myself to a Mike Leigh double bill last night. Secrets and Lies I watched for about the fourth time and it's a film that just gets better. A real Mike Leigh masterpiece! For me, only 'Nuts in May', 'Grown Ups' and very possibly 'Career Girls' beat this one.

All or Nothing (2002)
Timothy Spall

Penny's love for her partner, taxi-driver Phil, has run dry. He is a gentle, philosophical guy, and she works on the checkout at a supermarket. Their daughter Rachel cleans in a home for elderly people, and their son Rory is unemployed and aggressive. The joy has gone out of Phil's and Penny's life, but when an unexpected tragedy occurs, they are brought together to rediscover their love.

8/10. It's not my favorite Mike Leigh offering but has some magical moments and a sublime performance from Timothy Spall (yet again) but it's bleak even by Mike Leigh's standards.

Yes, the Shawshank Redemption. That's it!

Now that I've seen the original Starship, I'm considering watching the sequels.

Love them both.

I prefer All or Nothing to Career Girls if only for Spall's performance and the sheer grimness of it all. That's the kind of film anyone should watch when they're feeling homesick for the UK. That and maybe a little Big Brother. You'll be cured in seconds

Life is Sweet for me is Leigh's best and Meantime his weakest or maybe that should be 'least watchable'.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?

'I'm Not There'. A good film but I felt like an atheist at a papal convention; it's really for hardcore Dylanites only.

'I am Legend'. Sometimes I feel like a particularly stupid lab rat which just won't learn not to electrocute itself.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?

The Wife insisted that we watch Sliding Doors this morning, having not seen it since it was released. I'm sure that I don't need to remind you all of the story line of this fuzzy feel-good British romantic comedy cack but one thing really stood out for me. There's a scene where John Hannah's character is chatting to Gwynneth Paltrow's character about being on the rebound. Hannah jokingly says that he has been on the rebound since his 8 year old girlfriend ditched him in 1973 and that she left him for Gary Glitter and that she wanted to touch him 'there' or something like that.

^^ 'Nuts in May' means nothing to me but that picture does! A load of hippies on a commune or something like that, I can still hear the voice of that bloke addressing his chick by her full first name "Candice Marie," must have seen that filum over twenty years ago, I'll have to watch it again.
