City of Men was the TV follow up to City of God. Here's an interview with the director
indieWIRE: indieWIRE INTERVIEW | "City of Men" Director Paolo Morelli
If you liked City of God you'd probably also like Elite Squad, Brazil's highest grossing movie ever, about the specialist cops who go into the favelas after drug gangs.

    Snakes on a Plane.

Proved to be a good romping, entertaining film to veg out in front of, so for that I'll give it 8/10.
The story is completely ridiculous but I think they had fun making it.
'I know, let's have a snake bite the birds tit when they're in the bog joining the mile high club...and let's have another bite the guy's cock when he's having a piss...and another jump down her throat when she screams...and another squeeze a bloke to death and then swallow him head first...and let's have the steward catch one and microwave it until it bursts blood all over the inside of the window'...the list goes on
    Sur votre bicyclette, mate.

The Brides of Fu Manchu - Decent enough gap filler.

The Wild Geese - Who said the Brits. couldn't make gung-ho war movies.

    As said elsewhere...
In Bruges.....good film, bit of a comedy (very black), gangster thriller and even a bit arty and deep. Well worth a watch tho'

Yup, watched it last night. Several laugh out loud moments. As above, and all shot in beautiful Bruges. 9/10.

Acacia... another Korean horror movie about a boy and the tree he loves. In the end, everybody dies. It wasn't really very good.

Downloading now, you'll find it under it's Portuguese name, search for "Tropa de Elite".

Watched The Andromeda Strain. The new 2008 remake and thought it was quite good. I really liked the old one and this one held true to the story with a few new twists. Good remake of a classic 8/10.

I'm slowly working my way through the Wes Craven collection and next in line was A Nightmare on Elm Street which was one of my favourite filums as a kid.

It still looks great and although the soundtrack sounds a wee bit dated now, it still adds to the whole atmosphere. This was Jonny Depp's first filum and, despite his dodgy barnet and awful clothing, he delivered his lines in that familiar mumble that is so recognisable now. Good performances all-round, good special effect and of course a great story which hints at something much deeper than the usual horror / slasher efforts do.

There's a lot of crap out there to weed through to get the best quality rip and subtitles. Download this torrent:
Filme - Tropa de Elite : Movies > Other - Mininova

    Then download these subtitles:
Subtitles Tropa de Elite - subtitles english 1CD srt (eng) - Subtitles - download DivX subtitles from the biggest open subtitles database

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?

^ Thanks Eric C, it's good to have the links from a source that I trust. Once downloaded, is it relatively easy to run the subtitles with the movie?

The z man got me started on downloading movies, and I'm really grateful for his help, but I'm not sure what to do with subtitles that are downloaded separately.

I usually watch movies on GOM or VLC player and don't bother to burn to disc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Speed Racer.

Unbelievably bad. I watched about 20 minutes and had to stop.

    Avoid at all costs.

I agree, but my kids love it.

You need to make sure the subtitle file (.srt) has the exact same name as the movie (.avi) and make sure both .avi and .srt files are in the same folder. Then VLC will play the subs.

Yeah, it's very bad. I was desperate for something to watch. Could see the kids liking it though.
