Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?

first king nauresan - good stuff, i enjoy all the royal diplomacy, subterfuge, back-stabbing, historical tradition and custom. interesting look at war customs and city customs.

second king nauresan - good stuff. a war movie; violent, bloody, action-packed. again, the historical strategies and techniques of war well-shown. main guy uninspiring but his childhood buddy steps up to the plate as a toshiro mifune-style unorthodox but courageous warrior.

looking forward to the third.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?

Apparently the pirates of the Naresuan movies are on sale around Pat Pong. A friend picked them up last week. Unusual for a big budget Thai movie to have pirates on sale. It didn't happen for Surorothai.

kinda got that feeling myself. good flick but ultimately falls short of excellence.

i thought that it was really similar to 28 days later actually. the style of production, the sets, the apocalyptic vision of the future etc..

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?

The Myth with Jackie Chan, hired by my brother in law. Overall, we were disappointed. Jackie is just Jackie of course. There's a drop dead gorgeous Chinese princessw heroine, a voluptrous Indian, and literally hundreds of males for Jackiie to hit, kick, stab and slash. The story (you wouldn't call it a plot) appears to involve timne travel, eternal life, undying love and weird notions of honour. There's a cool weightless fighting sequence near the end. Otherwise, its not very good.

Corner Gas - a half hour situation comedy set in some godforsaken town on the plains. The brother in law has become obsessed with this series and downloaded lots of episodes. Basically, its superlaid back humour, so it should appeal particularly to Aussies. All the character are dorks or eccentrics, so thats fun. The beautiful heroine doesn't think she's good enough for the hero, who is the ugliest, dumbest bloke you could imagine, so that gives you an idea. I've never seen this on TV, but if you do, watch it, slowly.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?

Die Leben Das Anderen, the German film that won the Oscar. It translates as The Lives Of Others apparently.

It's about a Stasi secret police surveillance in East Berlin in the 80s. An actress and a playwrite are under watch for possible subversive activities. The Stasi policeman who watches them begins to question himself as it goes on.
It's excellent. It has a plot, proper acting, dialogue, atmosphere, and genuine emotional content.

Full marks. The Berlin of the 80s they recreate is excellently evocative too.

Heard good things about The Lives of Others. The debate goes on whether it was original and thoughtful enough to have beat out Pan's Labyrinth for best foreign picture oscar. Will see it soon.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?

Re. the Queen, I had trouble seeing it in Oz for a second time and working out what they cut for the Thai version I saw on the Thai Air plane from Bangkok. I think its a scene where the Queen looks particularly out of touch dealing with how to react to DIana's death and an opinion poll showing lots of poms wanted the monarchy abolished.

^^The Queen reacted correctly in my eyes, what she kept saying was correct.

It was Tony Blair and his spin doctors that persuaded her to change her tune.
