    FRANKENWEENIE

This is a Tim Burton animation, very similar in style to "The Nightmare Before Christmas" with similar Gothic settings and the same wry humour. As such it needed a new storyline and plenty of fresh material.

Burton has excelled himself with another animation featuring a boy and his dog. In "Nightmare" the dog's name, "Zero", told us something about his character, and this time he has named the dog "Sparky" for the same reason. Once again, children will enjoy the visual effects while the film contains sufficient material, especially the classic horror references, to give adults a good laugh.

The story is based around the school in a very conservative town, and mostly features the children, teachers and a few parents in that order. Martin Landau gives us some good laughs as the voice of the science teacher who bears a close resemblance to Vincent Price.

We have a mutant turtle which could easily take the place of Godzilla at one point, and it is well worth reading the headstones in the pet cemetery where you will find one bearing the inscription, "Goodbye Kitty" which, again, is far from Burton's only dig at cats in this film.

If you enjoyed "Nightmare" this will not disappoint.

"Keira Knightley is just about the most beautiful actress on earth" No Jessica Alba is.

Jessica Alba's not bad. Her movie career is as unimpressive as Keira Knightley's. Yeah, I know, Sin City wasn't a complete turd... but she's had two kids since then so I can guarantee she doesnt look that good anymore.

    Very good Ben Affleck performance.

Every time I see John Goodman I wonder what is keeping him alive.

Incredible story. There are some incredibly brave people in this world.

8/10 I could watch this again

PS We're going to see Skyfall on Saturday evening and would appreciate any comments beforehand.

I did figure that to be dramatization, especially the runway car chase which just seemed ridiculous. If that had been true surely a quick phone call could have stopped the plane.
