Finally got around to watching V for Vendetta last night and I'd give it 7 out of 10.
The plot is nicely different, particularly the idea of England ruling the world while the American colony degenerates into civil war - I do enjoy the English sense of humor.
It looks good, with excellent production values. Some of the quips are clever.
The premise obviously drew some inspiration from 1984.
Natalie Portman is wonderful, especially in the scenes when she's tortured and thrown into her cell. Best acting I've ever seen from her. She's the main reason to watch it.
We never get to see Hugo Weaving's face from behind the mask, but his acting is good nevertheless.
Main disappointment was the final fight scene, which I found simply unconvincing. It reminded me of a bad copy of the already awful fight scenes in Ultraviolet, which I nominate as worst movie of the last 12 months.
However, I did enjoy it when the trainload of explosives blew up parliament house, achieving what Guy Fawkes failed to do.
