Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
say clerks 11 last night.
really enjoyed it, very very funny and horribly real. anyone who liked the original will love this one. features flame wars, lord of the rings v. star wars trilogy arguments, beastiality and a dab of love

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I started a thread on it, but will contribute to this thread anyway. I saw Grizzly man last night. I was disappointed in it mainly because I was misled by the preview (if you see it you will know what I am talking about). However, it is an interesting story: One man living among bears in the forrest. I did not like it because of the turn it takes 10 minutes into it. The film should have been only 30 minutes in length.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Saw III, bloody hell I haven't even seen the second one yet! What's next? Pirates of the Caribbean III I suppose.
The best film that I have seen in the last six month is Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal, I just can't stop thinking about it and the images contained within the story are amazing. Ringu, The Elephant Man, The Crow, La Heine, Delicatessen, A Very Long Engagement, Lagaan, Open Water, The Whale Rider, Once Were Warriors, Team America (fcuk yeah) are all pretty good as well.
Truly awful films: Waiting (fell asleep before the end), Underworld II (although I thought that the first one was okay), The Descent, that Russian shite about vampires or something - can't even remember the name.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Saw Casino Royale yesterday, I'd give it 7 out of 10. I like the idea of a new mean and nasty Bond (he kills two people before the opening credits even start), although Sean Connery had a better voice. The stunts were excellent, especially the opening chase around the construction site, and the cars were great, although it was rather a pity to mash an Aston Martin like that. The girl love interest didn't particularly appeal to me, but that's personal taste. The gambling sequence in the middle goes on for far far too long. I also enjoyed the scene when the Venice house collapses while they're running around inside it. The ending didn't work for me, I just thought the movie was over and suddenly there's another bit of apparently disconnected action, with an explanation right at the end.
The wife's response to it all was to say: "Right, that's enough boys movies for you, the next movie we see has to be a girls movie" so that's something to look forward too - NOT!

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
i watched the first 40 minutes of terence malick's new movie the new world last night. the dvd was faulty and wouldn't play
it has wonderful cinematography akin to the thin red line with lots of unusual camera shots and angles and beautiful use of lighting. the plot was developing nice and steadily with colin farrell playing the part of a settler in virginia captured by the native indians and falling in lurve with a nice native lass and then the dvd screwed up....
-----------
i also watched the proposition..it's an australian western written by the dark man himself nick cave and directed by john hillcoat. the story itself is a pretty simple tale of redemption and loss. ray winstone plays the sheriff with the frustrated wife and guy pearce is the irish (pretty decent accent too) outlaw with the crazy "colonel kurtz" like older brother and the timid little brother whom he has to save from the noose.
lots of long shots of the red desert, loads of sunrise-sunset scenes and a bit too much nick cave style mournful wailing in the background for my liking. i thought that the story was a bit too forced and drawn out as well. john hurt stole it for me with his five minutes as a bounty hunter. good flick though overall...worth watching.
-------------
saw wordplay tonight. it's a documentary about the crossword editor of the new york times and the celebrities who do it. features jon stewart (very funny), bill clinton and bob dole. the real stars of the movie, however, are the people who attend a crossword tournament every year. the movie builds up background on them and follows their progress through said tournament.
it's actually quite engrossing and quirky. i enjoyed it.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
i'd like to see 'the proposition'. i heard that 'dirty 3' did the music, that right?
and for the other one, i'll just say i'm a cryptic crossword junkie. better than sex...
the last movie i saw was 'final destination', on a bus. for a shit, cheesy horror flick it's well-made and entertaining, in a popcorn kind of way. and gory, harking back to the eighties' friday the 13th and nightmare on elm street movies. some good deaths, vaguely intriguing plot and earnest acting. asian director, i think. my wife loves it.
haven't seen any of the sequels.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Try the sequels Unners, they are just as good if not a bit better.
Watched Running Scared the other night. It's got the guy from the first two Fast and Furious movies. He's driving a fast car again but for different reasons this time. Mafiaso's from the American Italian and Russian quarters. Didn't see the way it ended coming, that's for sure.

Beer fest- Somewhere in between the greatness of "Super Troopers" and the mediocracy of "Club Dread"
The Oh in Ohio- Total crap. Paul Rudd is funny, but the rest of it sucks
