The Cohen brothers were being almost clinically faithful to the book the movie is based on written by Cormac McCarthy.
The reviewer also wrote that originally he hadn't intended to give the movie a good review, but while writing he was forced to rethink that intention.
I will own this movie when it comes out on DVD.

oh yeah watched Blown Away on cable last night. A movie from back in 1994 with Jeff Bridges, Forrest Whittaker, and Tommy Lee Jones. Pesky Irish causing trouble in Boston.![]()
Pretty good flick actually, don't know how I missed that one originally?
oh yeah it's got U2 in the soundtrack too, another plus![]()

I really enjoyed No Country for Old Men, although I also kind of switched off right at the end, and I'm still not sure of the Mexicans got the $$$ or not.
I liked the main actors and that Scottish lass has a good Texan accent, no? One I'd like to have on dvd too.
Another good dvd I watched recently was the German film 'The Lives of Others' about 80s DDR and a Stasi officer who is assigned to spy on an artistic couple and finds himself examining his own empty life compared to theirs. Not that long ago, but seems like another age.
saw it earlier. enjoyed the movie..nice story and lotsa quirky little features. also had some great music and a few refernces to the mighty Melvins.Originally Posted by zehner

also watched 3:10 to Yuma. grittty, old-style western with a solid story and some great acting from Christian Bale. i really enjoyed it.

saw The Machinist last night. quite enjoyed it..good story and solid performance by Bale. 7/10
also watched the documentary King of Kong...it's about 2 guys who compete to get the Donkey Kong world record. was really enjoyable and poignant in a nerdy kinda way. 9/10
I watched Billy Elliot (2000) last night for the second time. The movie is so brilliant, and inspirational. Made by BBC films too. Highly recommended. It is about a boy who ends up being accepted into the National Ballet in London, despite all odds.
8/10
^^
I thought Bale was great in "The Machinist"...and not just because of his physical transformation.
On Wednesday night I watched "Before the Devil Knows Your Dead" directed by Sidney Lumet.
P.S. Hoffman and Ethan Hawke are two brothers from a dysfunctional family that plot to rob their parents jewelry store....and everything goes wrong. A bit predictable, but the acting is believable.
By the way, there are multiple Marisa Tomei nude scenes.
8/10
Without the Tomei nude scenes, it only would have been 7/10.![]()
American Blackout
Superb documentary about black voter disenfranchisement in the voting stations of the American system. Sterling stuff exposing the cancerous spread of anti-democratic ideals among the elites in the US.
10/10
No country for old men
rescue dawn
the rise of a foot soldier
eastern promises
we own the night
turistas unrated version
charlie wilsons war
