Last film I saw at the cinema was The Departed, enjoyed it, one of Scorcese's better "later" efforts.
I've been vegging a bit in front of UBC lately, caught a thingy called "Mobsters" the other night, with Christian Slater playing Lucky Luciano. Overly romanticised but a good, enjoyable little movie with a nice cameo role for Anthony Quinn who hams it up wonderfully.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
i just saw 'grizzly man' and thought it was absolutely brilliant although so disturbing, for me, i wouldn't be able to see it again.
herzog's putting together of this documentary is masterful, he's so good at what he does, everything i've seen of his has had such a powerful effect on me he has to be my favourite director, of all time.
this piece isn't about bears, conservation or wildlife. it's a portrait of a very misguided, self-obsessed individual; idealistic to the point of ridiculousness and his desire to opt out of civilisation, deluded and hapless. it's about what it means to try and rebel against humanity and carve out a niche for yourself as something else. and about the unfortunate, and fairly inevitable consequences of this. along with the consequences for those we, perhaps selfishly, leave behind. it's full of incredible set-pieces - tim and the foxes, the bear footage, the terrible moment that herzog listens to the audio tape of the attack that killed tim and his girlfriend, footage of hunters intruding on 'his' territory, interviews with bewildered bear 'experts'.
perhaps the most amazing sequence is tim's explosive attrack on his enemies; foul-mouthed and barbaric. also a moment for herzog to shine and do something incredible. he manages to draw a comparison, very subtley, to the psychotic actor klaus kinski who has been an integral part of herzog's film career. and for a moment, and perhaps it was just me, tim even begins to look like kinski with his chiselled features and almost savage madness naked to herzog's camera.
the last twenty minutes i found chilling. very dark as tim's death closes in on him, questions arise as to why he was there after his trip had officially ended, why his girfriend accompanied him to their deaths even though she had grown sick of his desire for self-destruction. the footage of the bear that killed them, an outsider to the area; bigger, angrier, hungrier and perhaps crueller than the bears tim had lived with.
all in all, i thought it was a fantastic piece of film-making. it moved me tremendously and will stay with me for a long time although raising many personally uncomfortable questions and ideas. although being very sad and troubling in ways that herzog's films always are. first-class.

Just watched Jackass Number Two. Tasteless, idiotic and downright disgusting. It's also very, very funny.
My score: 3 out of 5

I watched Flushed Away.
It was very comical and there are a lot of things in the film that make adults giggle as well as younger children.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
De Ja Vu and it typified Hollywood mediocrity in every way. Utter dogshit basically.
Denzel Blackmanington is in it and they can see into the past and a boat gets blown up but Denzel goes back in time because there's a hot chick who died that he wants to save and he chases a car with a gadget on that can see into the past and then he drives into a house and gets shot and there's some explosions and some one-liners and he manages to save the boat but gets killed but it's ok because he went back in time so there's two of him so he survives even though he gets killed and he scores with the chick and that's the end.
It's shit.

"The Others"
A good ghost story. Old creaky manor house. Creepy new house staff. Neurotic single mother and two kids. The others and the intruders. Watch it, it's good.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Just watched "Cars," the latest Pixar/Disney film, with Owen Wilson doing the voice-over for the main character Car.
Great story, stunning animation, high adventure, romance, life lessons, humour. More in the mold of older Disney films.
Both my soon-to-be 3year-old and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
For sheer nostalgia, I just ordered Monty Python's Life of Brian DVD on Amazon, so when it arrives I'll let you know by how much I reckon it surpasses any movie I've seen in, oh, maybe the last decade!
