Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I finally watched Zeitgeist The Movie. Quite frankly it was brilliant. Compelling and utterly plausible. The stuff regarding Jesus is pretty fucking nailed on to be fair. I'll remain reasonably sceptical about the rest of the content. The way the towers collapsed always bothered me and the supposed details of the Pentagon incident just beggar belief when you look at the scene of the crash. I always thought it more likely a missile. Quite frankly when all things are considered doesn't this version of events seem far more realistic a collection of events? What does bother me is the phone calls made by passengers from Flight 93. If it didn't crash in Shanksville then what actually happened to it?
Well worth a watch regardless.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Kinky Boots (2006)
Charles Price may have grown up with his father in the family shoe business, but he never thought that he would take his father's place. Yet, the untimely death of his father places him in that position, only to learn that Price & Sons Shoes is failing. While in despair at his failed attempts to save the business, Charles has a chance encounter with the flamboyant drag queen cabaret singer, Lola. Her complaints about the inadequate footwear for her work combined with one of Charles' ex-employees, Lauren, leads to a suggestion to change the product to create a desperate chance to save the business: make men's fetish footwear.
4/10. I downloaded this mainly because it had Chiwetel Ejiofor in it and because the plot looked quite interesting. All in all, it's one of those films you try desperately hard to like but it fails on all counts. It's a bit similar to 'Mousehunt' in a way (father dies and leaves a failing factory to his son) but whereas Mousehunt had plenty of laughs, this didn't raise a single titter. I see on the poster it says 'from the creator of Calendar Girls'. Yes....we can see.

The Band's Visit (2007)
Israeli with English Subtitles
The film tells the story of an Arab music band made up of members of the Egyptian police force who head to Israel to play at the inaugural ceremony of an Arab arts center, only to find themselves lost in the wrong foreign city.
1/10. It's won a list of awards as long as your arm. I can just imagine all the film critics sitting around in the bar at the Cannes Film Festival stroking their beards and saying 'I think the subplot was a metaphor that worked on about four levels'
It's what foreign films are all about. Long periods when no one actually says anything and you're just supposed to admire the cinematography, and plenty of camera close-ups of bits of paper blowing down the street and rusty metal signs swinging in the breeze by a dusty roadside. At least in most foreign films, someone gets a tit out when you least expect it.
Trust your Uncle Phil - it was a f***ing bunch of arse.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I saw American Gangster. It was a bit of an imitation of Blow and if you asked me, robbed Depp of his credentials. It was the same story basically...man like us being a normal guy working his butt off wants to make it big...finds out he can make it big in dope...but, in the end, the story is the same...Jails, Institutions and Death.
I like the part where the guy blows his gun at the viewer after the final credit has rolled in this new remake of an old hash.
I read in Thai Press Reports by some writer that this movie was utterly false, and it was actually the U.S. military that brought it in and it was U.S. military members who sold it (the H) in America. Wasn't really a black guy.
Might need to do some research on that.

Here's the book you'll be wanting for that:
The Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia
Amazon.com: The politics of heroin in Southeast Asia: Alfred W McCoy: Books

^ I'm afraid if I read them, I'll end up hating the U.S. government and its military.
I already knew a bit about the CIA bringing coke to the U.S. from South America from some reliable sources on the Net as well.

From what I remember of that book the US, with regards to trafficking heroin, were bad, but the 15 years earlier the french were worse.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
I think it was more CIA than the US military involved.
Someone should make a documentary or at the least a movie out of that book. Or have they already, and I missed it?

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Brick Lane (2007)
The story of a beautiful young Bangladeshi woman, Nazneen, who arrives in 1980s London, leaving behind her beloved sister and home, for an arranged marriage and a new life. Trapped within the four walls of her flat in East London, and in a loveless marriage with the middle aged Chanu, she fears her soul is quietly dying. Her sister Hasina, meanwhile, continues to live a carefree life back in Bangladesh
7/10. Solid British Film Four offering. Worth a look. It's a talkie though (as you'd expect) Lots of flashbacks to the village in Bangladesh and lots of gentle sobbing late into the night.

-----THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS-----
Oldie but a goodie. I've never been big on musical/films but I easily give this a 10/10. Entertaining stuff, imho.

I saw Fitna. Really a thinking film. I often wonder why organizations like UNESCO condemn these so much and then they don't condemn all the propaganda against organized Christianity from the other side.

Awake

Oh, Jessica Alba... ...
I loved watching you
But the rest of the film
Was crap
lame movie about a guy who has an op but isn't 'asleep' and can hear them speak, feel them cut...and he learns some uncomfortable truths, but can't do anything about them, as he is completely paralysed.
And did I mention Jessica Alba?
