Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Just watched Deep Throat for the first ever time, it was a bit rude.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Ehis was a good movie, though from reading the title I didn't think it would be
A decadent Senator who takes an interest in the Afghanistan war.
What I especially liked about it were the character flaws in some of the characters and that they even managed to take responsibility for what happened to Afghanistan after they beat the Russians.
7/10

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium (2007)
Dustin Hoffman
Molly Mahoney is the awkward and insecure manager of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the strangest, most fantastic, most wonderful toy store in the world. But when Mr. Magorium, the 243 year-old eccentric who owns the store, bequeaths the store to her, a dark and ominous change begins to take over the once remarkable Emporium.
2/10. I suppose I downloaded this one because firstly I was hoping for something that would rival Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - the Gene Wilder version of course (some fat chance) and secondly it's got Dustin Hoffman in it.
It's really not my kind of movie genre but I'm willing to give any film a chance. I lasted about 37 minutes with this one. The special effects aren't that special and it reminded me of cheap cinema matinees during long school holidays.
This film is really really shit.

Yes, I'm exactly the same. Anyone who has had a relationship with me has had to sit through 'Twelve Angry Men' (The original Henry Fonda version) at some stage. It's part of the deal.
Funnily enough, I watched 'Fargo' the other night too. What an incredible movie that is. So many amazing performances in one film. Frances McDormand was a worthy oscar winner for that, but for me it was all about William H Macy's role as the bumbling, scheming manager. Terrific film!

Next to Inside Man, Dead Presidents and of course Reservoir Dogs this is a great bank robbery film and it's a true story. Still in theaters, no DVD yet.
The Bank Job (2008)
Also, just finished watching Phone Booth. Short but clever.
Phone Booth (2002)

1957 Original ?
or....
 1997 remake?
I used to use this film for coursework in Saudi. It's the only one I could find that was appropriate for a classroom of men (some quite religious). They were mystified by the one scene involving a woman,...the judge.
I'd guess you rewatch the original Phil? Right?
I've never seen it. Only 1997 time and again. I keep meaning to watch the Henry Fonda version....but never get around to it.

Oh for sure. No disrespect to the late great Jack Lemmon but the 1957 original with Fonda could never and will never be topped. Treat yourself and see it. It'll blow you away.
I remember the first time I showed it to my wife. She was sitting on the sofa in anticipation, waiting for me to put something in the DVD player and I slipped it in without her even knowing. She thought what's this black and white old thing? but after ten minutes, she was totally hooked.

The stage play script is a good read by itself.
It used to be on the Australian national high school curriculum as a reader.

Re: Movies - what you seen and was it any good?
August Rush (2007)
Robin Williams, Jonathon Rhys Meyers.
The story of a charismatic young Irish guitarist and a sheltered young cellist who have a chance encounter one magical night above New York's Washington Square, but are soon torn apart, leaving in their wake an infant, August Rush, orphaned by circumstance. Now performing on the streets of New York and cared for by a mysterious stranger, August uses his remarkable musical talent to seek the parents from whom he was separated at birth.
1/10. Am I allowed to give films none out of ten? I thought I'd just ask.
It's got the kid from Mister Magorium's Snoozorium in it (which I hated) and the woman from Waitress (which I hated even more) and the two of them have combined - along with Robin Williams (who never misses the chance to add to his impressive list of turkeys) - to deliver this sentimental, soppy garbage that says absolutely nothing to me about my life.
I lasted about 40 minutes before turning it off.
I would rather bed down for the night under Charing Cross Bridge next to a lice-infested wino than watch this movie to the end. I would actually rather climb into the sleeping bag with him than watch the first forty minutes again.
I've decided that you should never watch films where the central character is a child. Ok there are one or two exceptions (Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka) but generally I think it's my own loathing of children that taint's a film's appeal even before I've got through the opening credits. Kids suck in movies. Think Sixth Sense. Think The Champ. Kids sure know how to ruin a film.
And Robin Williams. What about you? OK I giggled at Mork and Mindy once or twice, Good Morning Vietnam reached cult status and I could never understand why, but One Hour Photo wasn't bad until it descended into slasher flick silliness. But then there's Patch Adams (bollocks), Jack (bigger bollocks), Mrs Doubtfire (oh, fuck off) and that film about a board game where rhinos and all sorts of jungle animals run through the living room and not once does one of 'em shit on the carpet.
Robin Williams. Truth be known you're a cunt.

I just saw that movie on a flight.
Possibly the worst movie I have seen in a very long time. Horrible.
If you won't give it 0 out of 10, I will.

You're a gentleman sir. There's something strangely satisfying about knowing that you haven't suffered alone.

Incredible film. Excellent acting, excellent script, all a good movie needs.
Film captures suicides on Golden Gate Bridge / Angry officials say moviemaker misled them
Watched this documentary about suicides at the Golden Gate bridge.
It's very good. Obviously not a light easy watch. Amazing footage of people jumping to their deaths from the bridge interspersed with interviews with the families and friends of the jumpers.
Especially interesting for anyone who's from there I'd imagine.
