Hey everybody. I want to share something with all of you that I’ve been lucky enough to be experiencing for the past few months every Monday night. Tonight my friends and I decided it was time to share it with everybody.
I have been teaching at a fantastic school on Sukhumvit 71 for the past 5 years. During that time I’ve found quite a few people who share my love for good Science Fiction… be it television or movies. So every Monday night for the past several months, we’ve been meeting at a small restaurant that’s within walking distance of our school… which also happens to have comfy seats and a nice plasma screen... to drink, eat and watch really good sci-fi. And trust me… we watch it ALL… Star Trek (all the series and movies) Star Wars, Back to the Future, Terminator, Blade Runner, Time after Time (one of our favorites) the list goes on and on…
It’s been such a blast just hanging out, drinking together and shouting familiar lines at the screen, that we’ve decided that this is something that every sci-fi fan in Bangkok should know about. After all… the more the merrier, right? So… starting next Monday, June 1st, from 4pm-??? … “Sci-Fi Night” will officially begin at KAY’S KITCHEN on Sukhumvit 71… right off the Phra Khanong BTS stop. KAY’S is in the same complex as “The Winning Tower” which is right before sub soi 40 on Sukhumvit 7. Kay is a very fun, progressive, forward thinking Thai who is fluent in Thai, English and Japanese. She’s a fun, charming host who is very excited at the prospect of “Sci-Fi Night”… especially since we’ve been slowly initiating her into the “sci-fi fold” for the past several weeks. She actually did the Vulcan salute and said “Live long and prosper” as we were leaving the other night!
There will be fantastic drink specials (to be determined in the next day or so… I’ll post them when they are confirmed) and a wide selection of reasonably priced food ranging from western, Italian, Japanese and Thai.
Now before any of you start flaming me with comments like “yeah, this all sounds great, but what’s in it for you?” I’ll tell you right now that there’s NOTHING IN THIS FOR ME other than the satisfaction of having a bunch of like-minded, fun people to hang on with on Monday nights! I’m definitely of the opinion that there’s more to life for expats in Bangkok than go-go bars, and discos. And I’m confident that I’m not alone.
So… let me know what you think. What would you like to see on the first night? I've got pretty much anything you could want. And if I don't have it, I'll download it. Or you could just trust me to surprise you with something amazing.
I’d love to fill the place with sci-fi fans and have a great weekly gig to look forward to… but to be quite honest, if nobody comes, my friends and I will continue to “boldly go where no man has gone before” every Monday night. :-)
