I downloaded the series but i haven't watched it, from the makers of The Wire i think, maybe will watch it I don't like to commit myself to series these days, they usually end up canceled or go on for ever and ever.

I watched it. Thought it was very well done. Reminded me a fair bit of my service and some of the training I did with the Yanks. They really are a bunch of barely in control cowboys as portrayed in the series.

It wasn't cancelled. It was a self contained mini-series based on a book that was a true account of the invasion of Iraq by a Rolling Stone journalist.
It's been adapted by Burns and Simon behind The Wire so it's patently brilliant. Even handed, non-judgemental and there's fuck all overtly liberal baby killer rhetoric as you'd imagine. It paints the characters as real people. Humans in often inhumane situations. It's compelling for the characters and their respective stories as opposed to the action though, so don't expect it to be The Unit or any other such wank.
Whilst it's not overly critical of the Marines, it is a very damning indictment of the planning, strategy and attitude of the top brass. I absolutely disagree that it paints the main characters as cowboys. Just well trained soldiers having to deal with absurdly irresponsible and confused leadership.
It's basically fucking marvellous, and probably amongst the best shows I've watched in the past twelve months.
I second that. It is rather good. Cluezo - I get it on the otherwise pathetic Rayong Cable (ch. 64 which is MNET Series). Ideally, it's about mid-day on a Saturday. Yeah, good series.
