    The demise of UBC/ True

No Ashes, No Lions tour and now no BBC Entertainment.

Time for the local cable again methinks.

UBC or True Visions needs to get with the times. Having an English subtitle option for non-English programming would be a nice touch. Also, "On-demand" or DVR capabilities would be nice as well.

    My sentiments exactly.

I've still got the satellite dish and decoder from two years back.

Waste of money. Expensive garbage though the dish might make a very nice huge wok.

    Decoder off Tinsulananda bridge.

I just download all the stuff I want to watch, from what i've seen of UBC it all looks like American crap anyway, CSI and the likes just bore me. my friend has a Samart sattelite, pretty sure it's a one off payment shows good films usually a couple of weeks after their cinema release, basially it plays pirate dvds 24/7

Got me thinking... I have no idea how many foreign teaches there are in Thailand - nor do I know how many use UBC - must it must be many - wouldn't it be fun to just fuck with them? Form a committee, and let loose with a torrent of abusive phone calls every motherfucking day bitching about the lousy, expensive, repetitive programming. Growling and snorting at the timid, poor English speaking telephone reps. You know that with enough fire, it's gonnna reach management. Toss in some Letters to the Editor of the Post & Nation. Who knows... something may happen. If not, it's still fun to smack around a bullly...

I wonder who their consultants are at the True HQ. I know there are more US people than Brits in Thailand (but only marginally I suspect), but the recent actions are just madness. Why would you take away BBC Entertainment and replace it with more AXN stuff? Surely there is enough US programming with Star, AXN (#1) et al? I am not having a pop at the existing US stuff, I watch it, but why take away the BBC? Unless it is a direction thing muted by outside consultants? Or a money thing?

I bought the Ashes last time, loved it, why won't they do it again? Was it a loss? Was it's take up too small? Some explanation for their mad, abrupt actions is in order. I have seldom seen an 'international' company so inept at communication.

    Can I join the burn?

I figure that the reason UBC is so hopelessly fucked up is because it's owned by a South African Corporation and controlled by the Thai military at some level.

    Really is a dinosaur.

I don't think anything gets to them really.

I think it's the cost really, it aint cheap, if it was a few hundred baht a month I would have it on in the background but 600+ doesn't seem very realistic for Thailand.

You're more than welcome to the burn but the flame should come over the phone lines. Here's why: during the April break, I planned a trip back to California so I called UBC and told them to shut me off for 40 days (in other words don't charge me) they said OK but I would have to pay 600 bhat in "service fees." I exploded - demanded a supervisor - bitched like a raped ape - got put on hold...Supe came back telling me that that was UBC policy- I said look at my record: 11 fucking (yes, I said "fucking") years, Gold Member, never a late payment and you are going to charge me 600 bhat to flick a fucking (yep, said the "F" work again)switch? "Just a minute sir" ... 3 or 4 minutes went by - this time a man came on the the phone and said, "Mr _____, you have an excellent payment record with us for 11 years and we have decided to waive the fee..."

All it takes is getting in their face. Think what would 20 or 30 balls-of fire- calls a day could do...

    Those pricks deserve abuse...
