Thread: New Thai Bank ATM Card; This was Funny

The Siam Commercial Bank ATM at Nana station "ate" my card last night.

Or at least, it wouldn't give it back (or me any $$$).

Went to the Sukhumvit Soi 5 branch today.

Drained my account via my passbook for the hell of it and then inquired about a new card.

Teller passed me on to an officer who's first words were "come back in 15 days".

A little not jai yen but I responded a little loudly "I can't wait 15 days."

To make a short story long, five minutes later I was walking out with a new ATM card (unlike the old one this one a check card with a Mastercard logo) and some kind of gift from the bank which I haven't opened.

Could happen at any bank anywhere I guess but it happened here.

what time did it eat your card? was it real late? 2 a.m., 3? i heard those cards shut down at that time of the night/morning...

think she needs to eat the pin number too...

Bank policy differs from person to person, I keep trying teller after teller till I get my way.

I've alway had good luck with SCB. My account was opened at the Sukhumvit Soi 11 branch and they have replaced two lost cards on the spot with no hassle, just 200 baht each time. They have also been helpful with setting up international fund transfers out of Thailand that I can do via their website every month.

I don't know what it is about tellers anywhere in the world but they are self - important little upstarts. Must be handling all that money that makes them think they're important. At least here a fair few of them are worth gawking at.

if get any grief fom a teller i pull the 'indignant farang' routine. pretty soon get a 'higher' member of staff to deal with...

Been here a year and have yet to open a bank account.

School pays me by cheque, I take it to the issuing bank, and stuff the money under my mattress. Works like a charm.
