Thread: Is complaining the new Farang pastime?

In all my past travels I stayed away from expat groups largely because of all the moaning about how bad it all was...."Back in **** we didn't blah blah, and here we gottta blah blah"...

Sure, I'd get pissed off with some things, they were cultural differences I couldn't handle. Glad I stayed away from the whingers.

Probably a good idea to leave one's burden at the gate before coming in.

A good whinge can release a lot of pent up stress. By complaining frequently, farangs can relase their stress. Many Asians keep it inside and then they can totally flip out. I look on complaining as a positive mental health activity.

Dual pricing in Thailand, it happens all over the world. You, as a guest, in this country, can do nothing to change it. If you were in your own country then get into politics either at local or government level and try to change it. It is easier to change when you are inside the system rather than on the outside.
Scams on farangs by traders and girls. They happen the whole world over, not just here. Farangs, here, are now trying to work out scams to circumvent the new visa regulations.
The mental ability of Thais. Please do not try to tell me that there are no mental midgets in your own country. No Brits with the lights on and no-one home, no Americans who are one can short of a six-pack and no Aussie with kangaroos loose in the top paddock?
Relationships with bargirls/prostitutes - would they marry prostitutes in their own country? I know that your girl is different or that she only sold drinks!
Thai civilization/culture is different, now how long did it take you to work that out? It is not better or worse than your country - just different.
I can't get my Vegemite/shampoo/chocolate bar. Is it worth worrying about? Although, I did work with two British ex-military chaps who had Marmite withdrawal symptom but that is a different story!

Did anyone hold a gun to your back to force you onto the Thailand bound plane? Am I saying that if you don't like Thailand then just leave? No but you have to learn to adapt to your surroundings. My pet hate was when a 'free' taxi would not take me to where I wanted to go. Now I just think that he must be a very rich taxi-driver who can afford to turn down fares.
