'singalong' - The Thai National Anthem

    English translation.

Thailand is founded on the blood and flesh Thai people share,
    Every portion of the land belongs to us, thus we must care;
The reason why this country still exists is because the Thai people have long loved one another and been united. We Thai are peace-loving people but in time of war uncowardly, we'll fight to the bitter end, None is allowed to oppress and destroy our independence; To sacrifice every droplet of blood as a national offering, we are always ready, For the sake of our country's progress and victory,

    CHAIYO!

    And the romanised transliteration...

Prathet Thai ruam leuat neua chaht cheua Thai
Pen pracharat pa-tai korng Thai took suan
Yoo dam-rong kong wai dai tang-muan
Duay Thai luan mai rak samak-kee
Thai nee rak sa-ngob dtaa teung rop mai klahd
Aek-a-rahd ja mai hai krai kom kee
Sa-la leuat took yaht pen chaht plee
    Ta-lerng prathet chaht Thai ta-wee mee-chai

    CHA-YO!!

Makes you feel good doesn’t it?

Almost every portion of the land belongs to a very small minority. - would be more like it.

i've long suspected that the anthem was a horrible nationalistic offering, thanks for confirming it. this is scary shit and i'll stop standing still for it in the mornings now. it explains why we'll always be outsiders and why all those posters on here who think we're accepted are talking through their arse

Re: 'singalong' - The Thai National Anthem

most anthems are intentionally extremely nationalistic..if not bloodthirsty. the thai one is pretty tame when compared to La Marseillaise for example:

Let's go children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
    Against us tyranny's
    Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!

    Refrain
    Grab your weapons, citizens!
    Form your batallions!
Let us march! Let us march!
    May impure blood
    Water our fields!

    Sacred love of France,
    Lead, support our avenging arms!
    Liberty, beloved Liberty,
    Fight with your defenders! (repeat)
    Under our flags, let victory
    Hasten to your manly tones!
    May your dying enemies
See your triumph and our glory!

    Refrain
    We will enter the pit
    When our elders are no longer there;
There, we will find their dust
And the traces of their virtues. (repeat)
Much less eager to outlive them
    Than to share their casket,
We will have the sublime pride
Of avenging them or following them!

it seems that the more bloodthirsty the anthem the more cowardly the race

You are the odd one today, aren't you?

"i'll stop standing still for it in the mornings now" Is that not the wankiest statement you'll read for a long while?

"Those sneaky b'stard Thais, if they had told me the words of the anthem, I'd never have stopped before. I'll show them! Civil disobedience. That will fuck 'em. When they see me brazenly striding through the standing minions they'll say to themselves "Oh shit, we should have changed the words, now we've upset a farang! O woe is us!!"

Yeah righto henry, you give it to 'em

The reason why this country still exists is because of the sun, sand and sex

To sacrifice every droplet of blood as a national offering, we are always ready, especially if you're an unconvicted drug dealer, a lawyer representing some Muslim lads or get in the way of a mafia dons shopping mall development scheme

For the sake of our country's progress, just look at our new airport, and victory where we were beaten by Singapore at football for fucks sake,

    CHAIYO!

i always thought it went something like...

    "we love farangs,
    they are great,
they teach us english and marry our women and steal our land,
    we love farangs"

Re: 'singalong' - The Thai National Anthem

    Welcome all you foreign guests,
We want to share our land with you,
You are invited to come and purchase
Small parcels of land from us.

We will give our blood willingly
    To the hospital blood bank,
We are all citizens of the world,
So please have a nice day!

    My suggestion for alternative lyrics.

God of nations! at Thy feet

In the bonds of love we meet,

    Hear our voices, we entreat,

    God defend our Free Land.

    Guard Pacific's triple star,

From the shafts of strife and war,

    Make her praises heard afar,

    God defend New Zealand

Men of ev'ry creed and race

    Gather here before Thy face,

Asking Thee to bless this place,

    God defend our Free Land.

    From dissension, envy, hate,

    And corruption guard our State,

Make our country good and great,

    God defend New Zealand.

Ours isn't to blood curdling....but really national anthems are silly, I bet most kiwis don't know it, we generally don't fly the flag (we DO need a new one), I mean it all really needs to stem from thinking you're better or superior to other lumps of dirt....which is just funny.
