There is a new movie called Ong-Bak that just came out here in the states and has been getting pretty good reviews as an action movie. It is from Thailand and Thai movies hardly ever get released here. Its star is some guy called Tony Jaa. My question for all you living in Thailand is have you heard of this movie and was it a big deal in Thailand? Also, is Tony Jaa a famous Thai actor?
I don't know about Thailand but I downloaded the DVD of Ong Bak here in the states several months ago. It's ok. The action sequences are quite good but the story is a bit thin. The best part is watching the movie and recognizing locations in Bangkok. Makes you wish you were there.
Ong-Bak has been out for al long time here in Thailand. The tuk tuk chase scene was actually filmed on my street.
Great film..... don't you love that scene with the big kiwi or aussie?
good stuff. new one out soon from same director and same star- 'tom yung goong' it's called. set, i believe mainly in oz. which sounds odd.

"...ever wonder why they kill the weak ones, baby?"
The film is currently getting an international release after being picked up by a major distributor.
Saw it about 18 months back in a packed cinema in Pattaya.
When I was in America a guy told me to 'have a nice day' but I didn't, so I sued him
Its good apart from the cheese, don't know if its US or kiwi
By 2005 every previous resident of Warsaw had listed their temporary address as Portswood, Southampton, leading to it's appointment as capital of Poland. It is currently the subject of a hostile takeover bid from the home counties, particularly

Tacky movie!
All of the western actors are portrayed as villians as usual.
What was it? "F*ck Muay Thai" accompanied by a raised finger and scenes of loutish farang pawing innocent Thai waitresses. Puh-leeze!
Very high amounts of anti-farang sentiments.
The stunts were fairly good though.
Game? This wasn't meant to be a game!!!...NEVER!!
oh no, they're being nasty to us farang......how will i get over the indignity of it all?
who cares, you've got a pretty low self-esteem if you get offended by anti-farang sentiment in low budget, beat 'em up action movie from a b-grade s.e.asian country.
bloody great film - just like the old hong kong kung fu movies !
it was a big deal here.
But could not get a copy on DVD with english subtitles - seems like u can get holiday copy's of anything but not a thai film - I finally got a copy with english subtitles - In singapore haha.
Yeh saw that one about 18 monthes ago too. Thought it was excellent by Thai film standards, and really thought it could make it internationally as it has so many elements of a visit to BKK. Would love a copy of it on DVD but have not found it here (BKK).
Look forward to the next installment.
This, along with Suriyothai, is one of the Thai movies that every Thai knows about and will gladly chatter on about for an hour or so.
Ong-Bak is cheesy, action packed and a very very good popcorn flick. Kind of a Chalire Chaplin cum Jackie Chan thing.
Mmm, typical overly-shrill pc reaction there. To be expected from the likes of you, I guess.Originally Posted by Unwell

Just as a Thai would probably be over your description of their country.![]()

For myself I am an optmist, it doesn't seem to be of much use being anything else.
