light can and does bend. a vaccuum is used to eliminate variables. the speed of light does not change, what changes is the space the light occupies, and it is this space that we can measure as well. In the end, one can see that it would be near impossible to measure the remaining space.

subtracting from the universe all "hot matter" and measure what is left = dark

once you have the dark, you measure the length of time it took you to find the dark = speed

So if light is bent at 360 degrees inside a vaccuum...and the start reaches the end, does that mean I have just invented time travel...?

surely the source of the light (and the light) travelling away would never be visible to me if the whole caboodle was going away at the speed of light

by measuring the mass of the photon particles
one could then measure the field and mulitply.

the speed of light does not change. What may change are the instruments we should to measure it.

Gravitational pull has an affect on mass, but it only refracts the light.
adjust the result by the temperature changes or remove the variables as mentioned before.

^through a translucent material it is the same. the material is only blocking the light. It enters at the same speed.

now, light emitted from inside a translucent material is another story. The denser the matter, the more light it blocks.

Different colored light travel at different speeds and have different wave lenths.

    infra red .....ultra violet ect

I think there are spectrum charts that have the measurements

Red light travels slowly ,which paradoxicaly on a car causes the copper to thingk your going faster that you actualy are.

^dude I was spinning this stuff off the top of my head. Although astro-physics, quantum physics, and other such subjects are interesting, I claim to be no authority on the matter.

and more to the point, I was answering the speed of dark, and thus removed the speed of light from my equation.

a light shining in the distance will continue to shine whether you can see it or not. as long as the sight line remains constant, all the space leading up to the point of visibility is measureable dark. The speed is then equated by the distance covered.
