Desirable alternative? Here's one.

I just found out that god-dam.n teenager who plays the role of security guard and apartment cleaner went snooping in my room while I was away for Tet holiday. I've walked in on him before in my room, when I came home early than he expected. The idiot broke my CD Sony player. Then, probably not even understanding how to put a CD into CD player, took a sharp object and cut out the CD cover off one of my CDs (the cover on top of the CD).

The little bastard has been very distant from me and more serious than usual.

I can't prove it, so I won't report it, on principle.

There is only one person that's been in my room, and only one person that's had access to it.

When I leave someday, I am going to take a screw driver and destroy every f*cking piece of electronic equipment I have that is worth value. I'll cut the electrical chord off, and I'll dump Olive oil in it. Everything will be destroyed. That CD player that is now broken, a top-quality oven, a toaster, and my bicycle. Then I'm going to take all my teaching shirts I no longer wear, and cut the sleeves off at different lengths, and cut the collar out. I'll ruin every god-damn f*cking thing worth any value so the son-of-a-bitches don't get sh*t.

They just love getting sh*t for free. It's the socialist mentality.

I want to know why,if Vietnam has a much easier 6 month business visa, 50% higher wages and as a teacher you are afforded more respect as a teacher in Vietnam than Thailand,you are in Thailand and not Vietnam?

Surely it is not just about the fanny in Thailand? I dont know.
Could that many people be in the wrong place?

I am in Saigon.

Of course, there are many good local people here. But the dishonestly, stealing, and lying, is more prevalent here than in other of the countries I've worked and lived in. (This is only my experience.) You cannot afford to trust people here. They don't trust each other. This is a "take, take, take," and give nothing place. Shopkeepers, merchants, cashiers, security guards, maids, businessmen, and government will take you to the cleaners.

There is so much corruption and lack of trust in Saigon, that it hurts the economy. This has been studied. And I have seen it.

BUT....all in all, I am happy here, and my experience here has been overwhelmingly positive. But several times now, I have caught people trying to rip me off, and or have been 'nickled and dimed' to death.

There are so many stories of foreigners getting ripped off here, we could write a book.

All in all, I'm happy, though. The positives outweigh the negatives.

I am not an old poster that had a similar user name.

I do know who this former poster is. He's an acquaintence in Saigon.

What I do know, is that he has stopped drinking, is a vegetarian (apparantly), and exercises all the time.
