The other point is whether or not there are cultural biases in these tests and whether or not they do reflect intelligence in this country accurately, the Thais do believe they are of value and important, as you can read in the reaction to the low score in this article.

With all that posted, I get where some of you are coming from. Asian students are taught by there teachers to, listen, repeat, copy and again! Then whitey comes in the classroom and asks them to create a sentence using the word, "funnily," out of the blue. No wonder they're confused.

Evolution will deside who passes the genes in the future. Those are the most clever to my mind. Think of your favorite intellectual finding himself deep in The Amazon. Any one of those spear-chuckin wogs pickin thier arse with both hands would out-task him.
Nobody's saying "Asians are not creative".
Obviously all people from all places and all walks of life have some degree of creativity. Although in Asia, culture and social values can inhibit its development and lead to an atmosphere where creativity is discouraged.
Also a lot of what are seen as great innovations and examples of great creativity here, in places like Japan especially for example, are improvements and variants on pre-existing ideas.
don't know where you looked, but about 2 years ago it was posted in the Bangkok post...
Bangkok's average IQ amoung primary students (i think) was 98. Outside Bangkok but still central reason was 88 and the other regions averaged was 82. It was attirubetd to environmental pollutants and lack of nutrition...
However, whatever...
IME, Thais are a bit lacking in critical thinking, but they make up for it in other areas...

we reject generalisations when applied to 'us' but are keen to use them on others. but they're abusrd!
just talking about them and rote learning, beaing able to remember long strings of data and information... I notice that my students are exceptionally good at that. They are also really meticulous about copying... Ever see how well they can copy an art piece, or their friends homework?
