The wide variety of street food, some veggie-friendly - 20Bt spring rolls or freshly cooked pad thai sure beat a $2 'dirty dog' or stale pretzel in NYC

The weather - late March and I'm still freezing my ass when I walk out the door - wish I was in LOS now...

The Buddhist culture - beautiful temples open to all, unlike Nepal and India where farang cannot enter most Hindu temples, even if they are Hindus

The wide variety of transportation options - can't think of any other country in the world with motorcycle taxis

The fruit - just as good if not better than Hawaii because it's so cheap

You'd love Kathmandu then - KTM traffic actually makes BKK look civilized - when was the last time you had to maneuver around a cow in the middle of the road???

Thai TV - I remember my first night in BKK, turned on the TV and saw some soap opera with a katoey as one of the leading characters and thought 'what a country!!!'

yeah - they arrested me on a Thursday evening and my cop friend told me 50k I could walk - couldn't organise it quick enough on the Friday and on the Saturday I went to court which made it too late as negotiations had passed beyond me and the police and reached the judge

back to topic - being able to buy your way out of trouble
