I think that's part of his scam, he had someone write it once, and than just memorised it, I mean he probably writes it everyday, the exact same sentence.Originally Posted by Boonmee
Try it out, have A Thai write :
"I sit here coz I'm too lazy to teach English besides, this makes more money"
and next time sit next to him and as he writes his sign you write yours, write an arrow under the text pointing at him, see if he gets upset or not, ask him what it reads, I'll bet you a large beer he won't be able to read it.

btw does anyone know how long he has been doing that? this guy and the suitcase guy.
also, last time I've been on koh sarn road (bout 3 years ago I suppose) I saw a farang guy there on the road, and 2 months later another vist to kohsarn this guy was still there, he wasn't begging though, but he had clearly been living on the street quite some time, sittin' there with his Large Chang, his feet all fucked up, lots of build up skin on it etc. does anyone know if he is still there?

just remembered, my co-workers were telling me at the school where I work they once had this chick who also had run out of money, so she just worked for a month, she pocketed the first salary bought a ticket and went home, she gave the school some lame family emergency excuse.
another option if he really ran out of money.

I'm gonna slap this guy if he says that to me.

Thou shalt not mess with another mans sloth.....
Only some sarcasm involved. I was actually just genuinely curious what job would give a farang room, board, and 300 on PP.Originally Posted by Boonmee

It's just bar work; you go around the island for an hour or so in the evenings, handing-out flyers to all the tourists, trying to get them to come to "your" bar; then you just work in the bar (the Thais usually don't let you actually behind the bar, mind you, so it's just a case of ferrying drinks from bar to customer, clearing empty glasses & bottles & the like). One or two of the bars sell other stuff aswell.Originally Posted by redhaze
When I did it, the accommodation consisted of a thin mattress (Thai-style) on the floor of a bamboo hut. There was about 4 farangs living there, and the same number of Thais - all employed by the same bar. We showered by the well, and ate whatever one of the Thai staff had cooked that day.
During the day, we were needed to sweep the bar for an hour & go and collect ice from the market (no fridges in the bar, as electricity is f-ing expensive there), and after that we were free to do what we wanted.
In that year, I went from speaking ZERO Thai, to being able to hold a conversation in it, read and write it. It was a brilliant experience, but I wouldn't do it again!
Of course, if you choose to, you can just drink Chang instead of taking the 300 baht.
I was 21 - so that's what I did; wrecked (really quite wrecked) every night for a year. Then I just had to leave the madness...
Still, it was cool to be living on a tropical island for free...
And if you can play any musical instruments, you can usually get a band together and make a bit more money that way (maybe 1000 baht per night). Same if you can DJ.

That kinda sounds cool. You weren't working at that Irish Pub by chance, were you? Now that I think about it, there were more than a few white faces working there when I visited a couple years back.Originally Posted by Boonmee

Well, atleast he's doing something different to get the wonga and I'd guess it's the Thais who sort this gobshite out when he's on his morning bindabart and they go off feelling all jai dee and full of themselves.
Bert, the failed milkman from Milton Keynes, who can hardly string a sentence - hasn't a clue what the difference between past simple and present perfect, blows all his money on cheap Lumphi brass and is pulling in 270B an hour at ECC is little more than a a scammer himself - its just that he dons a piss stained polo shirt to push his scam.

Couldnt they get the local wagon down to Surat and jump on a boat accross also? Free food, all the fish they can eat and 130 in their pocket? Whats the difference dude? If they aint crippled they can fucking work.Originally Posted by Boonmee

I actaully met this guy too (white haired guy) at asoke Sukhumvit, and took some of my time to speak with him....
I told him the lack of teachers here in Thailand, and he should take some part time teaching and investigate during his free time for another job, and he answered:" no... i will never do the same money i used to get with teaching" end of point...
Don t search farther, this guy IS an asshole... I am sorry but if you are really in need of money you should take anything you get... I was about to propose him some agencies and finally held on my tongue.
He told me, tried everything he could to find job: website, walk in interview, blablabla..... never successed and honestly I doubt with his age he s gonna find a new position in any company...(except as english teacher?)
sorry if i did couple of mistakes, night time here and i am sleepy... i ll correct later ( or I bet you ll do)
I saw this farang beggar at Chatuchak about three weeks ago and he looked quite smart. In the couple of minutes I was watching him - most of which involved him and me staring at each other - several Thais stepped forward - mainly young people - and gave him money.
I guess they can't ever envisage a scenario where a foreigner would blatantly and unashamedly be scamming!
9-11 was an inside job. Ron Paul for President.
Maybe he is? Cause that lot has a whole stack of scammers in their tribeOriginally Posted by Boonmee

What I'm wondering about our white haired friend near asoke/sukhumvit is HOW is he able to live in Thailand legally? What visa does he have? He's been here for a while so I doubt he's on the tourist visa. He must have found some loophole. Oh, and here's another question. WHY is he looking for non-teaching work in Thailand? He'd have a much better chance in his own country.
I should ask him these questions the next time I see him. Of course, he'll call me an asshole again, but it'll be worth it to hear his answers.
I'll see him tomorrow. I think I'll take some pictures first.
